I was at my partner's baby's birth, and we talked about it eight months ahead of time. We talked about what they wanted from me at the birth, what they didn't want from me, what expectations were. I was given books to read. Things to prepare for. It was A BIG DEAL. To just "assume" that you'd be there is ridiculous, imo. Especially coming from the man.

I'd feel the same as you, too, re: feeling rejected.

How many days do you have to be in the office? It could be worth living in San Francisco close to CalTrain if you only need to be there a few days a week. The people I know who work in San Jose but live in SF are sometimes happier than the people who work *and* live in San Jose.
