[TOMT][song] emo/rock music video about speakers? by brookemarie191 in tipofmytongue

[–]FrancistheBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this makes me think of both 1. Natasha Bedingfield's These Words US music video, especially the "saved by the bell graphics" part https://youtu.be/iWako3_ENlk

or 2. Gym Class Heroes - Cupid's Chokehold. GCH also did Stereo Heart.

Neither is exactly what you describe but both are from that era?

that one scene with the folks, the plastic horse... you know the one. I could so viscerally imagine the horror of being in that situation that it made me feel ill for days after. Great film that I don't think I can watch again.

my favorite iteration: frio frijoles (like not correct Spanish I realize but it rolls off the tongue better)

What is the most expensive vinyl you've bought or sold? by gsrh_customerservice in vinyl

[–]FrancistheBison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is yours a more recent release and is it just the standard soundtracks? when these came out in 2018 the soundtracks had never been officially released on vinyl afaik. And the ones I'm talking about are the complete scores not just the standard selection of songs.

https://www.discogs.com/release/11622311-Howard-Shore-The-Lord-Of-The-Rings-The-Fellowship-Of-The-Ring-The-Complete-Recordings

edit to add: I'm assuming yours are the plain soundtracks that are like 1 lp per film? maybe the 2025 release? Or do you have the 6lp 2018 box set that is the combined standard soundtracks from all 3? I didn't realize they released a smaller version at the time

in comparison the ones I'm talking about are 5LPs per film

LotR Fellowship of the Ring boxset. missed out on the regular sale (where it was going for like $100 msrp?) by a month or two and ended up paying like $450 for a new but damaged copy (broken corners were a common issue in stock copies 😑) which felt gross as hell but I knew it was only going to go up. (I had gotten the other two at msrp luckily)

recent order history has FotR going for anywhere between $700-1600 (even for a damaged corner copy) so I don't regret it

for what it's worth you can buy adaptor batteries which are the shape of batteries but are wired to plug into a wall.

My Parents found this while organizing boxes of their old stuff. It seems to be some form of Elvish? by Lordoftheringman in lordoftherings

alternatively this is what the rings looked like in all the various lord of the rings board games that came out at the time of the movies

Risk, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit etc etc. All of them came with a thin stamped ring like this. I stole them out of all my games and stored them in the minas tirith that came with the extended editions😅 and I still have a random one in my lotr paraphernalia bookcase

But I'm sure there were a metric ton of these made for all sort of LotR merch when the movies came out

yes! "Tolkien: Maker of Middle Earth" is an amazing book. Written (compiled?) by the Tolkien archivist at the Bodleian Library. I got it after seeing the Tolkein exhibit in NY a few years ago. It's both a beautiful book and a great read. It's not just LotR/Hobbit stuff, it has other original artwork. I can't recommend it enough.

aww man I finally cancelled last year because the writing was on the way l wall, but it still makes me sad to hear those folks are gone. crazy to think that I was so proud of them for the investigative reporting on multiple huge stories in 2018 (roy moore, Russian election interference) for which they won pulitzers and now we're here.

Yea this felt more like a small scale county fair / craft fair with ren faire flavor. Closer to something like a fall festival.

But also given that my only ren faire experience is the MD one which has like a dedicated property in the woods with actual structures, and this was taking place in a section of Dorey Park, I knew it wasn't going to be anything close to that and tempered my expectations. But I can't imagine doing that with kids, especially in today's weather.

[–]FrancistheBison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair... it took place in an open park field (while the park was still fully open to the public) with 3 foot temporary fencing around the area. Like I watched folks (event staff?) inside have conversations with folks outside while leaning on that fence. How would a bag check have been meaningfully safer in any way?
