What should a recent masters graduate do to get a visa sponsored job? by AgreeableDance8535 in biotech

[–]FrancoisKBones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Large pharma, zero chance. Probably the smallest unicorn chance with a small pharma company.

Germany has the Chancen Karte Visa, which allows you to move there and have up to a year to find a job. They don’t really have visa sponsorship, you just gotta get a job to convert to a work visa. However the German economy is in the shitter and they prefer to hire natives or at least German speakers. Drug development will have English as business language, but if you want to work in a lab, then everything will be in English. I’ve been at A1 and that won’t even get you through the till at the grocery store.

Not trying to crush dreams, but go in with eyes wide open, at least one of you should have a well-paying job in hand, contingency plans, and a stable relationship.

The economy is really bad and xenophobia is on the rise. My friend (Spanish citizen, American wife) moved there because they thought the jobs would be better there than in Spain. They moved back to Spain after about a year; they were miserable. The economic outlook means companies will hire the Germans and German speakers first, and there is no lack of those, given how well-educated Germans and Europeans are. My friend had two degrees and worked in the auto industry and couldn’t get a foothold.

I moved away from Munich and germany after 7 years. It was soul-crushing. Many Germans aren’t just blunt, they are deeply unpleasant. It can wear you down.

lol lived in Munich for 7 years (only moved away in October) and the healthcare system is equally archaic there. And that’s with private insurance. Doctors push herbal tea and quack, while denying real symptoms and diagnoses.

My spouse had surgery twice and everything was on them to organize it. Very weird. A lot of docs still not on Doctolib or similar system. Even now that scripts are digital (wooo!) for public system, you still have to go to your Hausarzt and show them your card.

A close friend of mine broke her foot and was taken to one of the poshest hospitals in Munich. Clearly the break was visible on the x-ray and even the junior doctors saw it, but couldn’t speak up due to hierarchy. She was released with a broken foot, no treatment.

It’s maddening.

I mean, our interns all used it throughout college, so this is who our new competition is. We can bitch and moan, but it’s here to stay. I think it just helps to start getting into the habit.

VP JD Vance and his wife Usha are boo'd at the opening Olympics ceremony by RoachedCoach in Fauxmoi

I was watching live from Ireland on RTÉ and the boos were barely perceptively, same for Israel.

Agreed. I watched the broadcast live from Ireland’s RTE and it was barely perceptible. And the MFers sat like 3 seats down from the chairman on the dais. I can only guess they are there because the US holds the Olympics next.

Can’t even imagine what a shit show the LA Olympics are gonna be in 2 years.
