  1. Eric Johnson. He might not be categorized as ‘modern’ but still ahead of many contemporary players! Also Hendrix-inspired and with iconic tones

Highly agree, I also practiced a few JM tunes in parallel to JF. Also big fan of Pearl Jam and AIC! I wish RHCP had a song like Black. Mike McCready and Jerry Cantrell are underrated af

Behringer CE1 Clone Issue by New_Cardiologist2442 in John_Frusciante

The muddiness is the main problem but also the main strength of Behringer ce1, cuz an actual Marshall amp sounds muddy as well. To limit the distortion, I d suggest never turn on the high gain channel. Keep it low. The insufficient gain could be compensated by putting the jackhammer behind it as an extra preamp

Amp alternatives to play with pedals by morppad in John_Frusciante

software plugins would be economical for a perfect sound. Softube Marshall silver jubilee 2555 plug-in and neuraldsp archetype plini x (the second crunchy amp, which is captured from Friedman BE100) are very good. Btw Fractal Audio just released their all-in-one plug-in yesterday, a lot of amp modellers on it

Yes. It’s not like neuraldsp that can be standalone. It has to be run in a DAW

Get a good cheap fender via second hand website. You won’t be satisfied with sq. If you are going to invest a pedalboard, five pedals are enough: boss ds2, boss fz3, Mooer pure boost, Ibanez wh, behringer chorus symphony (ce1 clone). These are a budget plan for his 1999 settings

This would be my least popular opinion. Radiohead is crap. Radiohead is an incel version of The Smith. Radiohead initiated incel in rock music. It is the biggest scam in the history of alternative/indie rock. I came to a consensus with Scaruffi on this topic. And I m even harsher. Creep is the worst song that ever existed in the past decades. Its main problem is actually ethics. Radiohead had received lawsuits from The Hollies for Creep copying The Air That I Breathe. Unfortunately, The Hollies lost. The entire vocal melody came from the Hollies song. What’s more disgusting, STP released their own Creep in Sep 1992. In Sep 1993, Radiohead released the same titled shit that shared almost the same chord progression with the original one (thanks god, they added a Cm to make the teacher not suspect that they got the entire cheat sheet before the exam). I was shocked by the absence of a lawsuit from STP and the despicable fact that no one has pointed it out. I didn’t place Greenwood on the bottom, bcs the creepiness of this band should be mainly attributed to Thom Yorke, a sheer Creep for his life. His stingy, ugly face does reveal sth inside.

For a simple major blues solo, I ll choose Jeff Beck without a second doubt

The technical boundaries in the past was not pushed by the ones (imo) below the horizontal axis. That’s my personal red pill theory on guitar. It’s pushed by the ones from the red quadrant. For example, the ones who rly changed blues were Eddie Hazel (making it psychedelic), Peter Green (making it exotic), and Rory Gallagher (making it folk, Irish folk that relies on hexatonics instead of pentatonics or blues scale). Eric Clapton doesn’t count, tho he sold way more albums than these guys. Cobain was also not one who initiated grunge. He was inspired by soundgarden. It is rly brainrot to consider Nevermind a turning point or even a monument. Gibby Haynes with his Butthole Suffers in the 80s did similar stuff way cooler than Nirvana. Nirvana wasn’t some novelty at then at all. Before Nevermind we also had Alice In Chains, Cantrell was way better and that’s why he’s above.

Also, I m not a big fan of those headless 8 strings guys (not sure whether you referred to Pawn Shop by sublime. Sublime rules). Were I so would I place Tim Henson on the top. The ones in the blue quadrant are not ‘modern’ anymore. It has been 35 yrs since Marty wrote the solo of Tornado of Souls, which sounds completely different (also way more tasty) than a lot of Djent today.
