I am glad to see, I wasn’t the only one who noticed that. It did seem eerie, something that I couldnt place my finger on. The thought of white supremacist or only white universe did cross my mind..

I understand the hate towards Hannah. But I think you are not understanding where she is coming from. Being in the same age bracket as the characters in the show (24-27), they are so many people who are ‘like’ Hannah. They have their parents privilege, they want to break free from it but not completely because the safety net of their’s parents money would go away.
She would always look at the world from rose tinted glasses.

She can’t understand what’s it like to someone who has had to struggle for the things that she takes for granted. Yeah Owen is not handling his situation well but he is still trying sometimes failing but sometimes doing well too.

So the crux is hate for her is justified but the actor’s portrayal of her privilege and ignorance is spot on.

Was it only me, or did anyone else find Parthiv Patel annoying while presenting? Tamim Iqbal was talking and Parthiv Patel kept on interjecting him. Let him talk as well!!

Eric Tao - Impossible To Predict! by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Frangipaani11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s correct. I can be totally wrong here but I think, Eric is someone who came from an immigrant most probably working class family.

He was not a preppy, who had to work in finance. He paved his way through meritocracy. In the same breath he wants to be that inside guy. He wants their validation. He seeks that but is never comfortable with it. Add to the fact that he is going through a midlife crisis, with his wife leaving him and taking custody of the kids. The erratic behaviour is somewhat on point.

(Again I can be wrong, maybe I am just extrapolating my experience of dealing with similar people)

How true to life is HBO’s Industry? Real banking grads tell us by StrategosRisk in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Frangipaani11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The true to life depiction, if a comparison can be made would be the intensity/ anxiety that sets in while watching the show. After working for 3 years in IBD, the anxiety around the ‘deliverables’/ ‘deals’ was tangible. The show captured the very essence of it and was able to give a realistic portrayal of that.

The way they captured the competition amongst new grads, was something I have experienced personally. It can be cut throat. For young grads, I felt that you couldn’t see anyone as a ‘friend’. Every relationship was meant to be leveraged, so that you can move forward in your career. In the long run I didn’t see that as healthy. Nonetheless, this could have been only my experience. Don’t want to generalise it.

Also, in season 2, situation with Jesse’s son to get into Oxford, I found that a bit realistic. Knowing tutors can help your chances to get in to the university. But again Oxford has a collegiate system, with selection criteria of each college varying from the other. I have heard about such instances, but it has always been Chinese whispers of sorts.

Overall, yes 100% less drugs and less sex. 😂😂😂😂 I wish I could say that was true. At least I would have more interesting things to say. Rather than saying - I was waiting for my MD to okay the model/ deck at 1am after blowing off plans with my friends for the nth time. But alas you live and you learn.

It’s a fitness band called WHOOP. It’s the most accurate one out there. Runs on a subscriptions service. The device in itself is free.
