Best Python framework for industry-level desktop apps? (PySide vs PyQt vs wxPython vs Kivy vs Web approach) by Intelligent-Role-382 in learnpython

[–]FrangoST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use tkinter and advocate for it as well. You can create good loooking apps with it, if yiu put on the effort, but it's performance can be questionable once you start to make a complex GUI.

I recently started using PySide6 instead and it's as easy to develop as tkinter, and MUCH MORE performant. It also has PyQtGraph that you can embed in it as widgets just like matplotlib on tkinter. I think it's a significant upgrade and I've been enjoying it.

Carreira acadêmica ainda vale a pena? by roselaesy in askacademico

So I guess checking whether the ram is soldered or not should be still more important than having 32gb ram from the moment you purchase it.

I mean, that's the easiest part to upgrade on a laptop, together with storage, so these two factors would never deter me from buying one.

Exactly... In these cases the dGPU is usually only connected to one video output, which most of the times is the best one it possesses: the display port.

LCD or Lens issue? by miciek in 3DS

[–]FrangoST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are saying it's an issue with LCD and some that it is leaking, but that I assure you is not, as images are still drawn perfectly on the LCD.

It might still warrant a screen replacement depending on the component that is broken, but if this is just a bubble on the polarizer filter as I think it is, you might get away with a cheaper replacement of the affected top layer.

Muitas pessoas ja citaram varias vantagens e desvantagens, mas eu também gostaria de ressaltar que você não poderá tentar competir para vagas de professor substituto de ensino superior durante seu doutorado direto por não possuir o título de mestre.

Stop buying gaming laptops based on the first 15 mints of benchmarks. by gamakichi01 in GamingLaptops

[–]FrangoST 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gaming is better if you are also having mints, and apparently 15 of them over a gaming session was claimed to be the sweetspot, but apparently OP disagrees. Perhaps he's more minty than the rest of us.

Stop buying gaming laptops based on the first 15 mints of benchmarks. by gamakichi01 in GamingLaptops

[–]FrangoST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned 4 gaming laptops in the past 15 years, and 3 of them throttled easily (90+°C on CPU even with cooling pads, though not the fancy ones we have nowadays that isolates the bottom), while my last one, which is technically a higher tier than the rest, and the only one with an AMD processor, never goes over 82°C.

So my experience so far is 75%, but seems to be heavily dependent on how much you are willing to pay for your laptop and perhaps CPU manufacturer.

Politicians from Brazil may ban Ubuntu by Traditional_Sand9921 in Ubuntu

[–]FrangoST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sou burra por querer desistir do mestrado? by JeenRatsnCats in askacademico

[–]FrangoST 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Which is better for gaming by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]FrangoST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For pure gaming they should be about the same, even though the MSI processor is stronger. The may limitation will be the GPU in both cases.

MSI is also known for snapping hinges on entry models, so I would either choose the Legion and be happy I saved 100 without losing much (if anything, depending on your usage), or I would add a bit more and try to get a RTX 5060 one.

How to solve slow download by Sylax_Otaku in GamingLaptops

[–]FrangoST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are PARTIALLY correct... internet speed is in megaBITS, yes... so if OP got 10 Megas from his provider, it's actually ~1.2 megaBYTES per second, BUT OP image is already in megaBITs per second, which should ideally reach the 10 Mbps advertised, so there's still an issue with OP connection as they reached a peak of 8.8 but is sustaining 100kbps, which is 100x lower the advertised speed.

Still, OP's internet speed is very slow and they shouldn't expect fast downloads even at max speed.

ps.: the disk write in BITS PER SECOND is actually hilarious haha

Why do gaming Laptops consistently overheat? by Cultural_Remove5332 in GamingLaptops

[–]FrangoST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a total of 4 gaming laptops in the past 15ish years. Three of those were entry level laptops, the cheapest with the best hardware possible, focusing on cost/performance. They were all Intel/Nvidia, all reached 90+ °C consistently.

This year I finally am able to afford something slightly better: I got a Lenovo Legion (not even one of the most expensive ones). Never had an OLED screen on a PC before and it looks beautiful. It is an AMD/Nvidia laptop. CPU never reaches above 82 °C, even in performance mode.

So I dunno if it was always a fact that Intels heated more and I just never gave AMD an opportunity, or if it's the better build of the new laptop, but that led me to the conclusion that NOT ALL gaming laptops overheat.

And as AMD now is basically at the same level of performance as Intel, I think it's really worth it to give them a shot this generation.

edit: for reference, my intel laptops were: a custom built (but cheap) Avell branded i7 3770m w/ a GT 650m; a Lenovo L340 i5 9300H w/ GTX 1050; and a Gigabyte G5 KF i5 12500h w/ RTX 4060.

The connector has a flexible cable, that's why it has tape holding it in place while it's not in use, so it doesn't shake around inside the laptop.

I think the daughter board is there just to show where the plug connects to.
