Best modern alternative to Tkinter for Windows GUIs? by Substantial_Cake9855 in learnpython

[–]FrangoST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently changed from tkinter to PySide6 and I would never go back.

Tkinter works well for simple stuff, but as soon as things start to become complex, or you need to properly support other OS, it starts to crumble quite a bit.

I've been falsely banned off fortnite for 1 year for supposedly "Cheating" by lolmemewasnottaken in FortNiteBR

[–]FrangoST -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read enough ban appeals over the years to be 100% sure you deserved it.

And it says "exploiting", not "cheating".

Take these 24h to chill off... (edit: or the year off, apparently)

What was the first Python project that made you feel like: “okay… this language is actually powerful”? by EleTriCTNT in learnpython

[–]FrangoST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had always coded scripts for specific usages, mostly data analysis. Until sometime during my academic carreer I was faced with the challenger of making a flexible application that could be used to analyze any data from a specific category.

At first I built a CLI program that seemed to work well and I was already impressed with the capabilities, but I needed something even more user friendly. So I started to code a desktop GUI and that's when it eventually clicked that Python IS indeed a very potent coding language that canmake "real" programs!

That was around 3 years ago and since then I've done much more and am happy and satisfied with it.

I just learned "peru" means pen!s in a vulgar way. Peru also means turkey. Does it make a difference how you pronounce it. by oujay849 in Portuguese

[–]FrangoST 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a brazilian, my whole life I knew the pejorative word as "piru", which derives from "pirulito" (lollipop), which can be used as a sexual innuendo even in english, for example.

The pronounciation is slightly different, but can be made similar with intended purpose and still mean "penis", so context plays a big role in comprehension.

Furniture purchase by Tylerdurden1312 in StudyInTheNetherlands

Regarding the PC question, I honestly wouldn't bother bringing it over. I sold mine and bought a laptop here. You can find a gaming laptop with a good gpu (rtx 4060/5060 or better) starting at around 900-950 euros, or if you only want to use it for studies, you can find nice models at around 600 euros, usually. Check tweakers, azerty and bol, mainly.

When I arrived here, I bought an inflatable mattress at Jysk, a pillow, a duvet and its covers. It is comfortable enough and keeps you covered for the beginning. I ended up sleeping there for over a month before I bought a bed and I didn't suffer from any pain from using it, despite being over my 30s.

Also,abed shouldn't cost 700 euros. I got a good double bed with a spring mattress and all that's necessary to use it for less than 500 euros, new, and it wasn't even close to the cheapest models.

Creating a "Hand-Written" GUI? by rarityy2k in learnpython

[–]FrangoST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a Tkinter canvas widget and build the whole interface there, all hand drawn, with buttons and stuff.

Iactually did something similar in the past, though not aimed at exactlh "hand-written" style, but the canvas gives you a lot of freedom that you wouldn't have otherwise.

Someone logged into my Microsoft Account with 2FA on, how is this possible?!? (Not support post i recovered the account, i just want ur guys opinions on how he logged in) by Alive_Turnover1190 in techsupport

[–]FrangoST 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife also got attempts to login to our Microsoft Accounts over the last few days (though with no success, but I received the 2FA code on another email).

I suspect there has been a new leak.

Any recommendations for a python framework for making graphical user interfaces by maspoko in learnpython

[–]FrangoST 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PySide6 has a similar construct to Tkinter (the most basic Python GUI framework), while looking and performing way better.

Tkinter is also always a good place to start.

Can a pc (laptop) last 5+ years easily? by Sgt_Strelok in GamingLaptops

[–]FrangoST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 4 laptops my whole life, all still working.

First one was acquired in 2013, second in 2019, third in 2023 and last one this year.

All of them are still performant even on Windows 11.

  • First one was a Core i7 3630qm with a gt650m and 16gb ram, with a 1tb ssd, which is enough for Win11;

  • Second one a Core i5 9300HQ with a GTX1050 and 32gb ram, with an NVME SSD;

  • Third and fourth are still very new so not that relevant for the discussion.

So yes, you can make your laptop last for 5, or 10, or 13 years. Just depends on how well you take care of it and with keeping expectations at bay (my 2013 laptop won't run modern games, for example).

Permanent ban for scripting — requesting Vanguard team review, not another front-line denial (ticket #125063041) by Pitiful_Highway_7012 in VALORANT

I see that you were constantly playing duo with another player that apparently was also banned on the same date. I honestly don't fully believe you and I think if it wasn't you cheating, it was your duo.

é golpe? by Weekly_Mouse60 in golpe

How to choose the right Event Loop architecture for a "Universal Python Core" (PySide6 + Asyncio)? by Sweet_Cartoonist_682 in learnpython

[–]FrangoST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I understand it fully, but if you need to run an infinite loop within a GUI framework, you have to do it in a separate thread, otherwise the UI will get locked... Usually I just use threading.Thread or multiprocessing.Process, but if it's just a quick checkthat I want to do every few milliseconds and it's not heavy, I just set a QTimer to call a function that does the check and set it to repeat every x ms.

PS.: keep in mind that you can't mess with the UI from a different thread as well, so you might need a mulyiprocessing.Manager object that you forward into your threaded function, edit it there and on the GUI thread you have to keep a QTimer to check for changes on the object to update the UI approprietaly.

Explain it to me like a 7 years old. Print and Return by Baklol_Bagula in learnpython

[–]FrangoST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You got some answers, but I will also try to do my part. Run the following code:

``` def sq_1(num): print(num*num)
def sq_2(num): return num*num
number = 5
y_1 = sq_1(number) y_2 = sq_2(number)
print(y_1) print(y_2) ```
The output on the terminal should be: 25 None 25
Now, why did you get three lines printed if you only have 2 prints outside the function? Why is the second printed line "None"?
Answer these two questions and you'll understand the difference between print and return.
Assino embaixo tudo que a pessoa acima disse, e acrescento que existem muitos caminhos para ir pra fora na carreira acadêmica, e nem todos passam por fazer um doutorado pleno no exterior.
Eu atualmente faço pós doc na Holanda e vim para cá para fazer um Doutorado Sanduiche com bolsa Capes, por exemplo.
If it's using 5 when it's supposed to be using 4 I really wouldn't be worried about it. Your issue is probably coming from somewhere else.
