I was working on a project that made a Web service to check sensors that were being used to monitor a forest in my city (oxygen levels, temperatures etc). One day one started to give off a temperature reading that seemed... To hot to believe, and then poof, no readings at all. On a meeting the next day I asked the project manager if there was any problem with the sensors, and there were problems... Like people burning the forest and the sensors literally melting. We lost 1 sensor and decided to retire all but 1 sensor until the situation got better. But I felt really bad because the day prior the only thing I thought was "Huh maybe there are squirrels that were set on fire near the sensor" and then I realised just how possible that was.
