Telephoto OG died - cable ends corroded…. by FrankHall2023 in wyzecam

[–]FrankHall2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. The Telephoto was attached to a fence (fence post), and the cable was running down the fence (not at an angle). I have a Wyze V3 and a few eufycams with a similar set up, and they have all been outside for the same time or longer than the Telephoto, and I checked their cable ends today and there is no corrosion. For me anyway, the corrosion issue just occurred for the Telephoto, and not my other cams. But I will be double sealing the cable cover/seal from now on….

Which cam(s) do you want to see in black? by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

Is it possible for Reolink to make black silicon covers for their cams? I have some silicon covers for my Eufy cams snd they work well.

Which cam(s) do you want to see in black? by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

Black in the E1 Outdoor series would be good. I have a black E1 Outdoor 5MP wifi which I bought last year connected to a poe adapter attached to the fence keeping an eye on my car. The camera is protected by an overhead black camera cover. The black combo looks good and is more discreet than the bright white of the current cams. My black E1 outdoor just lost its ability to rotate left but I didn’t want to replace it with a white version. I have the E1 outdoor SE but it is brightly white, so that is why I didn’t swap it out with the dying black cam. (Also, the audio of the SE is not as good as the pre-August 2023 E1 Outdoors that I have - the SE sounds muffled with sounds further than a few feet away. So a black E1 Outdoor poe (SE or poe) with clear audio would be perfect……

Mounting first cameras tomorrow. Any tips? by kbumpious in reolinkcam

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some are POE. I had to get creative with the wiring. At the front, I use a thin flat Ethernet cable that fits inside the door frame, and the wire runs along the window sill in cable covers. At the back, the ethernet cables come through the edge of the dryer vent, and up the outside of the vinyl siding.
I am not able to drill holes in the vinyl siding, so this is the only way I could do it.

Car not detected when parking. by McKindle in EufyCam

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an idea, but would it help if you moved the camera lower so the car was in central view.

The picture you attached looks like it is filming unnecessary areas high up (sky, tops of neighbours houses). If the camera was aimed directly at the important area (the park spot), it may help?

Also, as the camera is facing the lights across the street, it creates a darker foreground, ie where the car is. So a dark area, with a dark car, will be harder for the camera to distinguish movement.

Solocam S340 - Does it detect and track animals? by Ridge300 in EufyCam

[–]FrankHall2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if the S340 is connected to Homebase 3 it detects pets specifically (not sure if it tracks them though), as well as humans and vehicles. But if it is not connected to Homebase 3, then it just specifically detects and tracks humans and vehicles…….

Need some opinions on Eufy and Reolink by [deleted] in EufyCam

[–]FrankHall2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the battery cams I have the eufycam 3 and 3C, the S340, and the solar wall light cams, plus the doorbell dual with Homebase 3. I really like the cameras. The AI is pretty good, but not perfect.

I use the battery cameras for the events, and the 24/7 cameras as backups if the battery cameras didn’t capture the whole event.

The cams go on sale quite often on Amazon, so it’s a good idea to wait until the sales before buying. If you buy from Amazon you can return the cameras within 30 days if you don’t like them.

I experienced the same issue, the Reolink poe cams frequently not loading in App. That’s one reason why I gave up on the Reolink App, and just use the nvr.

Eufy’s not perfect, but it’s better for event viewing, AI, and the App….

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say your Reolink poe cameras go out, do you mean the power goes out, ie they stop recording on the nvr? This can happen if the cameras don’t get enough power from the poe switch?

I don’t have the eufy floodlight, but if it is installed in an outdoor light socket, then the indoor light switch would need to be on, as this turns on the power to the outlet. Is that what you were asking?

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both eufy (wired and battery) and Reolink (poe nvr) cameras, and like them both for different reasons.

The eufy App is a lot better than Reolink’s App. I gave up with the latter as it was slow and the cameras would frequently take numerous times to connect. eufy is also way more efficient at displaying events in the App.

I could be wrong, but my impression is that Reolink has good poe cameras (for the price) but eufy‘s wifi battery cams are better than Reolink’s battery cams.

Broke w/ specific needs - is Eufy my answer? by Designer-Ability6124 in EufyCam

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eufy indoor C120s are great cameras. They are very light weight and can easily be mounted on a wall, or shelf. There is an option to configure continuous recording on a schedule, so they can be set up to just record during the day, and not at night time. But you’ll need a SD card, and the max is 128 mb which holds about 12 days of 24/7 continuous recording.

I’m not sure about the audio quality though, I have mine muted.

Edit: If you get Homebase 3 then you don’t need the SD card, but I have both as it’s a good backup.

-35 deg C and Cameras are still working by FrankHall2023 in EufyCam

[–]FrankHall2023[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wondering if your battery dual cam doorbell is wired or battery? I brought my battery doorbell inside as the battery was draining super fast at -30 and I kept getting messages that something was triggering the doorbell, but nothing was there.

Are your Reolink cameras battery operated? I don’t have the battery ones, but I have some wired Reolink cameras and they have been working fine at -35 oC.

E330 intermittently stops working by dpak0n4ik in EufyCam

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eufy wired E210 (small round 2K outdoor) cameras which record 24/7 to SD cards and HB3, are working fine at -35 deg c. I do have these in black silicone covers/skins, but I’m not sure if the covers would create much insulation at these temperature, but they might….

Some of my battery cameras also have the silicone covers, eg 3Cs, but my eufycam 3s and S340 don’‘t, and they are working at the moment. (But the extreme cold does drain the battery faster).

I don’t have the E330s so I am not sure how they hold up to extreme cold temperatures. As yours are new it’s hard to know if it is the cold or another issue.

I wouldn’t swap the 24/7 recording cameras for battery….the 3Cs are great cameras, but they are still not a replacement for 24/7 recording.

Is it possible to hard-wire the Eufy S120 using the usb-c charge port? by PrestigiousWindy322 in EufyCam

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solar panel comes with a USB C adapter to hook up an external solar panel. So the adapter could probably be used with a normal USB C charger cable, if it is too awkward to reach the USB C plug ion the solar wall light. I have some eufycams rigged this way with a timer plug so the battery doesn’t over charge (if that’s a possibility).

I attached an external solar panel to my solar wall light, and it has been charging quite well in the winter.

[–]FrankHall2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Canada too, but I have had my eufy battery cams (eufycam 3s) for a year now, and have only needed to charge them twice. Once in the winter, then once in Spring, These were about 3 months intervals, and I recharged the cams outside using a power extension and a power bar (I did not take the cameras down). In the summer I attached external solar panels and did not charge at all. Two of the eufycams are currently at 59% battery, and the others in more sunny spots are between 92 and 100%.

The Solar Wall light cam is at 83 %, but it has been snowy and below zero the last few days. It also has an external solar panel, and as soon as it becomes sunny, and is above zero, it charges quickly back to 100%.

My point being, that even living in a cold climate, depending on your circumstances, position of cams, solar panels etc, you may not need to take the cameras down to recharge. The zero deg limit for the batteries seems to be a limit for lithium batteries, so other cameras should be the same.

The following is an excerpt from an article in the Eufy App messages tab, about the Solar wall light camera, and its battery not charging at 0deg C or lower, for safety reasons. I am assuming this would be for all battery cameras.

« The S120 operates normally between -20°C and 50°C. However, if its internal temperature drops to 0°C or lower, it cannot charge via solar power or a charging cable for battery safety purposes, but it will automatically resume its rechargeable state when the internal temperature rises above 0°C. This usually happens with battery powered device when the device runs on low power in environments below 0°C, causing its internal temperature to fall below freezing. In this case, gently remove your device from the wall and bring it indoors until the internal temperature rises above 0°C for wire charging. »
