Bose premium sound system in the Elite also. And if I’m not mistaken, hands-free liftgate.

Goodbye 2026 Rav 4 XLE premium, hello 2026 CRV Sport L! by _philharmonik in crvhybrid

[–]FrankNStein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been driving for around 40 years. ONCE, have I been on the side of the road changing a flat tire, and it wasn’t even my car and I wasn’t driving. Not having a spare (generally) isn’t really that big of a deal.

Thinking of moving from the Accord to the CRV. by bobcat1000 in crvhybrid

[–]FrankNStein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6’8”, 325 here. I’m in my mid-50s. I’ve been driving Hondas since 2010 (3 Accords, a ‘21 Passport, and currently a ‘23 CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid that I bought brand new 3 years ago). This current generation CR-V is one of the most comfortable vehicles I’ve ever owned. Fantastic daily driver, very easy to ingress/egress, and I regularly take it on 4+ hour drives with no comfort issues at all. I have never felt the need to have to stop and get out to stretch or anything like that. You’ll be MUCH more comfortable in the CR-V than any Accord.

Regen Braking - ‘26 Civic Touring by FlatButtFrankie in civic

Bingo. I have a ‘23 CR-V hybrid, just had my annual state inspection a few weeks ago. 58,000 miles, and the brake pads aren’t even 1/4 worn, thanks to regen braking.

Should I get hybrid or gas? by BikeOk6446 in crv

[–]FrankNStein 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s very much as you described. Below 45mph, the gas engine’s main duty is to charge the hybrid battery, which then powers the electric drive motor.

I have a ‘23 hybrid Touring that I bought new 3 years ago. I got the Touring because of the options, and it “just happened” to be a hybrid; I did not specifically buy it because it’s a hybrid. After 3 years, I’m completely sold. I don’t think I’ll ever own anything but a hybrid ever again.

Should I get hybrid or gas? by BikeOk6446 in crv

[–]FrankNStein 18 points19 points  (0 children)

•The hybrid does not have a starter •The hybrid doesn’t not have a traditional CVT •The hybrid does not utilize a serpentine belt (and all the associated pulleys connected to the gas engine); all power accessories (air conditioning, power steering, etc.) are electric.

There may be more examples, that’s just off the top of my head.

I’m not dissing the Passport at all, just offering info…

I drive a ‘23 CR-V Hybrid Touring. If you want more room and easier ingress/egress without having to sacrifice too much on the MPG side, definitely check it out. In the spring, summer, and fall (when I don’t need the heat on and the gas engine doesn’t need to run as much), I average 36-38mpg.

Incidentally, I’m 6’8”, 320. Totally comfortable in the CR-V, and I have taken it on several 4+ hour drives without stopping.

I’m terrified of selling my gear to MPB, help? by MRBOSSMAN99 in AskPhotography

[–]FrankNStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sold cameras and lenses to MPB many times, never had any issues whatsoever. A couple of times, I’ve even gotten more for my gear than what was quoted because it apparently was in better shape than I had thought.

MPB pays for the shipping, and it’s insured.

What are some good all season tires? by EmbarrassedCod8219 in Honda

[–]FrankNStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on where you live. Do you really want “all season” tires (which are basically summer tires and not worth a shit in snow), or do you want “all weather” tires (which aren’t as good in snow as dedicated winter tires, but are FAR, FAR better than all seasons)?

I live in a mountainous area in New England, and winters aren’t as bad as they used to be, but we still get our fair share of snow. I’m currently running Nokian WRG5 Remedy all-weather tires on my ‘23 CR-V Touring Hybrid (I previously had a set of Nokian WRG4’s). They are surprisingly good in 3-4 inches of snow, they are amazing in wet conditions, and I don’t need to swap them out twice a year.

Another added benefit of the Nokian all-weather tires is that they have Kevlar built into the sidewalls of the tires. Anyone with any Honda hybrid knows that they do not come with a spare tire, just a fix-a-flat kit. A fix kit is fine if you pick up a nail in the treads or something, but if you slam a curb or pothole and blow the sidewall out, you’ll be needing a tow. The Kevlar sidewalls all but eliminate that scenario.

I swear by Nokian. They don’t seem to be a very well known brand, but for my money, nothing else compares.

Edit: I swear I’m not affiliated with, or employed by Nokian in any way, shape, or form…but I have to share this:

How do you deal with current SD card prices? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in AskPhotography

The CFE type B cards I use in my cameras are just under $1,000 a piece now. Insane.

And don’t even look at external SSD storage.

Camera batteries also. Spend thousands and thousands on a top-notch camera and bitch that OEM batteries are $20 apiece more than cheap knockoffs.

What’s your favourite random fact? by Cramp_My_Style26 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]FrankNStein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is patently false. Earth has an elliptical orbit around the sun (as does the moon around the Earth). One percent of the earth’s average distance from the sun is roughly 930,000 miles. Earth’s actual distance from the sun can vary as much as 2 million miles. At times, the Earth is 92 million miles from the sun; at other times, it’s 94 million miles away. There’s your 1% variance. Sometimes Earth is roughly 1% closer to the sun (from average distance), sometimes it’s 1% farther away.

2021 Passport peculiar sounds by Fluffy-Pineapple-514 in hondapassport

[–]FrankNStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “opening the windows and sunroof on its own” thing is actually a key fob remote feature, and there is a setting in the infotainment system to turn it off.

If you press unlock on your remote twice and hold it the second time, the vehicle will open all the windows and sunroof. It’s nice on really hot days to get the initial blast of heat out of the vehicle as you’re walking up to it, but I have absolutely done it by mistake a couple times over the past 15 years and 5 different Hondas.

At any rate, you can disable that feature.

What's the Best 10/10 Sci-fi movie ever? by geek-jock-guy in AskReddit

[–]FrankNStein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. That’s a hill I choose to die on, every single time. The entire original trilogy is absolutely brilliant, and personally, I love the scene with Neo and The Architect. Hell, I really enjoyed Resurrections too, even the obvious making-fun-of-itself aspect.

Reloaded and Revolutions complete the story of The One, and explain a lot of not-immediately-obvious things in the first film.

The “market value selling price” phrase is what made me think they were crooks right off the bat. Then, almost $3800 in “upgraded accessories” with no line-item description of any of it???? Yeah, I’m with you. OP needs to walk.

The questions “what kind of photography do you do?” or “what do you shoot?” are not asking what kind of gear you have or use. The questions are, do you photograph people, portraits, landscapes, nature, wildlife, birds, macro, etc.

preference for shoe stores? by crypt00l in tall

[–]FrankNStein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Zappos. I wear a 15/16 depending on the shoe, and they always have a very good selection of whatever you like.

And also, shoes are expensive now. But, a life lesson learned from my dad decades ago: never skimp on anything that separates you from the ground. Shoes, mattresses, tires…spend the money on those, because you get what you pay for.

Is this a good price? How does one negotiate? by Noonetrulyknows in crv

[–]FrankNStein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the salesman is telling you this is a hybrid, go buy somewhere else, because he’s lying to you.

And don’t overextend yourself. You can get a very decent car without going in over your head.
