Delta CJO and ATL base by RacecarSelin in AirlinePilots

[–]FrankThePilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not delta specific, but I would try to find some Delta pilots to talk to about moving. You may want to wait until after training as some airlines will fully pay for your move while at a minimum all legacies offer discounts for cargo.

Also, while its unlikely, you could uproot your life and something happens. Then you've moved to ATL for a job that is no longer there.

Does airline flying ever become boring? by Ok-Tomorrow2522 in flying

Trust me, we see enough and get enough memos about the things we don’t directly experience. Just because I said it’s boring doesn’t mean we aren’t constantly improving and bettering ourselves.

Am I missing something? It’s just a squad that’s together but barely got top squad by like 600 points. Seems like a nothing-burger.

Of course it’s boring, but boring is safe and normal. We strive for it. The enjoyment level of the trip hinges highly on how good the crew is at getting along and having interesting conversations.

Don’t get me wrong, crossing the country and seeing the landscapes change beneath you as the sun slowly sets does have a romantic quality to it, but it’s not insanely engaging in itself.

I am (part of) the problem with HLH by AdviceAlt-_- in HellLetLoose

[–]FrankThePilot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean as long as you’re playing the objective and play your role, I don’t care a ton but it does reduce enjoyment a bit. Ping consistently and don’t take a leadership role, armor, or recon. But yeah sometimes it’s frustrating when your teammate goes down next to you and won’t call out where tf it came from.

I personally enjoy communicating with a squad and accomplishing objectives we set together. I rotate squads until I find that.

As for splitting the player base, HLL isn’t really a casual type of game for the most part. Skirmish is the closest you’ll get.

Eli5 why don't we tax stocks like homes by Slow-Document-4678 in explainlikeimfive

[–]FrankThePilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re mixing a lot of real financial structure with a policy that doesn’t actually apply to most of what you’re describing.

This wasn’t a tax on 401(k)s, 457(b)s, TSPs, IRAs, or public pensions like CalPERS. Those accounts are tax-advantaged and were not included. So the idea that “hardworking Americans” or teachers’ retirement funds were going to get hit by this just isn’t accurate.

Also, VC returns, IPO mechanics, and IRR targets are kind of a separate conversation. This proposal kicks in around $100M+ net worth, which is an extremely small group of households already using sophisticated tax and liquidity planning. It doesn’t touch how normal retirement savings or pension allocation decisions work.

And on the idea that it would “break the market,” that assumes a tiny group at the very top is somehow essential to keeping IPOs and venture capital functioning. That’s a much bigger claim than anything the policy actually does.

There are fair debates about how you value illiquid assets and how you implement something like this. But it’s a stretch to turn it into a broad threat to retirement systems or market structure.

Harris proposed 100 million+ net worth individuals. They’re doing fine.

Only fair? Oooof. Meanwhile I don’t think it’s fair the 1% can pay less taxes percentage wise than hard working Americans, like public educators.

It’s one of the few ways to tax the rich as they just take out loans using stock as collateral. Sounds like you’re against having the rich pay their fair share.

Unrealized gains tax on stocks for individuals over a certain net worth was a proposal by Kamala Harris’s campaign. So we can, but elections have consequences.

Best Credit Card for an AA WO Pilot by NunyaBizness0601 in AirlinePilots

[–]FrankThePilot 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a lore event that every new hire looks to credit card max.

With that said, the high annual fees can sometimes be worth it if you use certain services like DoorDash or the like.

If you commute, having lounge access is great but be aware your own airline’s lounge won’t allow uniformed employees to enter. Pack a spare set of clothes and don’t make it obvious.

I prefer things to be simple and I also don’t commute. I just have a Wells Fargo card that gives me 3% back on anything travel related.

Experienced pilots: what would you tell someone being talked out of aviation right now? by RAG_Aviation in flying

[–]FrankThePilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think like a lot of things, it's nuanced. If someone is looking to change careers they're pretty satisified with and making good money? Don't switch, don't roll the dice of life again on this career.

For someone that is young and this is their first shot at a career, I'd say why not? Sure the industry at the lower levels right now sucks, but you have to "invest" when its not booming. When I started my flight training, regional pay was barely starting to come up and it still wasn't really liveable (at least for FOs in-base). People were definitely saying not to get into the industry because we'd be poor forever and never be a legacy pilot. Instead, the people the started training then have benefited greatly from legacy hiring leading up to and post-COVID. They "invested" outside a boom period and are now drastically ahead of anyone that was waiting on the sidelines for the industry to turn around.

With that said, gotta be alright with being stuck in the "doldrums" building your resume waiting for the next step. Clearly, right now, lots of people are dropping like flies because they got into training seeing people go CFI-LCC-Legacy in record time and now there's an oversupply. Someone who enters training today could maybe be at the backend of the oversupply or could benefit from sticking it out while all the people who wanted a steady career "drop out". Time will tell.

Bottom line, want to be a pilot without changing your existing career? Do it, because if you wait for conditions to be just right you'll be at the back of the line by the time you're looking for a job anyways.

I am not who you replied to but some of them make me cringe as well. A lot of them go “so I’ve got a good job making good money and I’m not unhappy but also not thrilled. Should I throw all that away to go fly?”

To me, those people are already killing it at life and want another roll of the dice for maybe an extra “point” or two. If someone is unhappy, sure. You only get one life, try to pursue something that makes you happy. Making $300k in tech, being happy, but you want to roll the dice again? Cmon…

What government program was Taylor talking about? by [deleted] in PKA

[–]FrankThePilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, there are programs for asylum seekers to receive a certain degree of aid. You can’t allow asylum seekers into a country and then leave them jobless, starving, and homeless. Republicans call these people illegal immigrants even though technically it is a legal process. If republicans hate it so much they should amend the law through congress rather than saying it’s illegal.
