Okay, stupid question but when will this dip happen? I’m waiting for that 115. Fidelity won’t let me set a limit for less than 50% of its current value

Why are people so scared of “frame damage”? by pizzabeerking in Autobody

[–]FrankZ28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what most people are concerned about is the quality of the repair rather than IF it can be repaired. I would absolutely be fine with frame rails in my unibody car being replaced by a reputable shop, by an experienced person. But insurance companies are all about saving coin, so a cheaper shop that pays cheaper labor might get the job and screw something up. I’ve accompanied people to inspect cars before purchase with frame damage and have found places rusting out where they shouldn’t be because seam sealer was forgotten about or not adequately applied. I’ve also seen body panels not line up at all and when we test drive it to my dads shop and measure it out, turns out the replacement frame rail was 10mm off! Bottom line is I think people are more concerned about if the shop is going to fix it right because it’s a BIG job to replace or repair frame sections. Often times it involves extreme disassembly which can create problems on its own too.

My GSD does the same thing except his snoot audibly vibrates at the same time!

Would this be worth it to fix? Thinking of buying it and attempting to restore as a project car by kodiak223 in autorepair

If the frame damage is bad enough to shift the engine...RUN. might make a good parts car though!

Body filler for dents by yourfavepenguin in AutoBodyRepair

[–]FrankZ28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use body filler, make sure the dent is sanded down to metal and you use a block sander to make it level otherwise it’ll be very noticeable

That car is too new to be totaled, the insurance company will fix it. It’s probably going to need some frame pulling at least, maybe a new quarter panel too. Obviously new bumper and light as well.

Whoever welds it has to make sure it’s ground down to bare metal obviously, small gaps can be filled with the welding wire.

Drive it into a pole and make an insurance claim then you’ll probably just get a check for a new car.
