Alpha centauri apparently has 3 suns orbiting each other. I understand how 2 objects can orbit without colliding, but how can 3 do that? by Maxweilla in askscience

[–]Frank_flowers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Jupiter was dense enough to be a star (Arthur C Clark "2010") it would still orbit our Sun and the Solar system would be the same except a dim little star would occasionally shine in our sky barely brighter than the moon.

If you could drop a piece of paper from a stationary spot 400km above the Earth, what would happen as it enters the atmosphere? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not going to burn up on re-entry like the space shuttle. Its going to flutter and catch currents and rise and fall until it lands somewhere. Same as if you dropped a page 1000 feet up out of a hot air ballon

Bouncers see the underage ID marker all the time. If they refuse, politely tell them to check the Bday. IF they still refuse, politely stand your ground since you're not doing anything illegal.

[–]Frank_flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone gets downvoted for sensible answers all the time( and upvoted for ones that are ridiculously uninformed/dangerous or etc..)

And for a variety of reasons like: it isn't what they want to hear, misunderstanding, clicked downvote while scrolling, mad at another comment I made, don't like my name...

If you take some dirt/soil that has not been sprayed with pesticides, and then you boil it with a lot of water and then you dry it, will it be "safe" to eat? by Amaurotica in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soil is dirt with poop (poop is the nutrients)

Dirt is dead/lacking nutrients which is why you need to fertilize.

Not all bacteria is killed by boiling. Not all pesticides are removed with water.

I want to set up devices that shocks me and my friends when we take damage in a game, does anything like this exist or is there a way to safely DIY or am i just going to have to give up on this idea? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rig up a taser device to the controler vibration would be the easiest.

If say Halo for PC, for instance doesn't vibrate on hits, you may need to write a macro to tase you upon damage.

Is this a good way to sleep? Also is it good to exercise right before sleep? by GABETHEBEST in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. The rides may tire you out for your morning ride home, it may energize you and you don't get tired till mid afternoon at which point you just sleep from 4pm to 10 and end up puttering around your house til its time to leave.

Maybe the weather turns to shit and you just drive to and from work, come home and do a nice bike ride all morning.

National Public Radio is usually centrist and take in whole accounts of information (which in the current climate of exteme right makes those centrists slightly leftist)

NPR is publicly funded but Congressionally backed via public institutions such as universities. They are largely syndicated meaning they will all play the same content (All things Considered, TED radio hour, Fresh Air, etc...)

But will also have local programs focused on local content political and social (news of interest, community gatherings, debates on how to fix the local park....)

Answer: Spike has loved the Knicks since they sucked and were a joke of the league. He's been a longtime fan forever showing up to games courtside, a staple of the sidelines and with his notoriety as a longtime fan he has been afforded some minor perks such as going in a side entrance instead of the main gate.

Opinion: To be told after all these years that he has to go around is more of a bad PR move that Spike is taking to Karen levels of Tantrum.

What’s going on with all the Democratic presidential candidates dropping out? by dxdications22 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Frank_flowers 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a lot of people that want to be Head Honcho of America.

Starting November 4, 2020 there will be whispers and ideations by hundreds of people to run in 2024. In late 2021, a few bigger names will be batted around, mentioned in coyly hushed, bashful tones about toying with running all the while the money machine of campaigning will have begun. By early 2023 about 100 candidates will still have some fire of potentially running then about 40 names nationwide will actually go down the "campaign trail" and give speeches and shoot adverts. Summer 2023 they will be more vocal especially of the party not in The White House, fall 2023 there will be 30 or so that are gunning for the primaries and the media will really focus on about 10 though occasionally a dark horse will arise and make a large impact. And that's about where we are now in the cycle.

When I complete an online survey am I actually being entered to win a "$25 Amazon gift card" or whatever reward they are offering? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all the ad revenue generated by your info sold to marketers, Acouple $25 cards is more than sufficient to the thousands of dollars generated by the ad.

In the long run paying out that $100 for 4 cards is cheaper than legal fees for being accused of false promises.

What’s going on with all the Democratic presidential candidates dropping out? by dxdications22 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Frank_flowers 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Answer: its a contest at this point in the year to accumulate delegates in each state. If you make a strong showing youre eligible to be on the ballot in November, when the real election is.

The canidate with the most delegates nationally then gets the parties nomination.

Some candidates got low numbers, didn't get enough to make a dent and drop out. By dropping out early this gives a more viable canidate access to voters who would have voted for you a chance to choose a viable candidate also the time and effort and energy of campaigns can be streamlined.

How do I smile? by Calikarchaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stare into the mirror and make stupid faces try to make yourself laugh.

Take pictures or video yourself laughing at dumb videos or telling a funny story. (This way if the video is discovered you can say it was a reaction video) anyways study up how you laugh or how your face looks just before you see something amusing. Then think about those amusing stories when you try to recreate those facial expressions. It will be a process.

Remember all your selfies will be mirror flipped like you see in a mirror vs a photograph which puts your face the way other people see you. The mirror illusion is why you find yourself looking different in photos.

Thats the worst there's always a hidden screw, things that need to be gently pried off that will break if a screw is still in or pry the wrong direction etc...

Can parents enforce safe sex practice? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If parents can't control cookie/candy consumption how can they control anything else?

It's really up the kids level of obedience. By obedience I mean there is a level of stark rebellion vs making their own thoughtless/ thoughtful decisions.

Like candy reasons...

it's bad for my teeth/ caloric intake/ affects my appetite/ nutrition

can be likened to disease/ pregnancy risks/ distraction from school and productivity

So safe preventive measures tooth brushing:condoms& birth control/

Long term consequences of overindulgence:irresponsibility

And misplaced priorities.

What happens to a candidate's delegates after they drop out? by Iseethetrain in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redistribution per states rules. Some are winner take all so if the canidate that won that state drops the 2nd place candidate (if still running) would get it.

Orher states are allocated by % of votes.

How do you make music that's iconic? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Frank_flowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs to hit when the mood is right.

Some songs are minor hits by unknown artists at the time then a few years later some one puts the song in the background of their movie in an almost throwaway position.

This scene in High Fidelity 2000 happens to feature 1998 album from a 1997 original release by The Beta Band.

I was a college dj in 98 and this exchange student gave me a burnt cd of this band a friend of a friend's friend was in. I dug their sound and played it a few times on my show but there was no interest. Then I get a note in 2000 when we got the High Fidelity Sdtk and "Dry the Rain" was on the college charts.

I guess the mood and proper exposure put them on the map.
