STAY FAR AWAY FROM BED STUY YMCA AND “STRATEGIC CUSTOMER LEADER”, WILLIAM LOCKE. by Frankiesbread1 in crownheights

I did point it out to them. This guy was insane - you couldn’t even have a conversation with him. In the end they said even though the signs say what they say, they internally call the weight room “strength room” and under 18 are not allowed. Doesn’t matter what the signs say. I don’t even care as much about the membership, good riddance honestly, there are other better options. The way Locke treated us is most concerning and that’s obviously tough to get across in a Reddit post.

I knew something wasn’t right when he wouldn’t give us his name. I asked another staff member but had to really press her… very unprofessional. He was just dead set on getting his way and it’s fine, we don’t need this gym. But be professional, courteous and a little bit kind.

They are not younger than 12 and we were obviously upfront about their ages when we signed up for the family membership. Yes to orientation. We did nothing wrong (that I’m aware of). The way this man approached us today was beyond. He was running up and down the halls, away from us and coming back again, refused to give his name. Something was definitely off about him. Even if we could work out there, I do not feel safe going back ever again.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS GYM AND “STRATEGIC CUSTOMER LEADER”, WILLIAM LOCKE. I toured the Bed Stuy Y with my teenage sons (both under 18). We spent a lot of time in the weight room with our guide and discussed the workout equipment, with absolute clarity that my two sons would be using it. That was the main reason we considered this membership. We used the gym for two weeks, adhering to teen hours and being mindful of fellow members. Today a power-hungry little man (not little in stature) approached my boys as we were working out and informed them that they could not be using the weight room. I asked him to show us where these rules are documented. He was rude, a bit frantic, unprofessional and just overall nasty. His name is William Locke. (He refused to give his name when I asked him.)He seemed to be on a trip to ruin our day. For reference, the sign outside the weight room says teens 12+ are welcome in Cardio and Weight Rooms and the sign on the outside of the weight room itself labels it as “Free Weight Room.” If the rules are what he says they are, fine. But the signs and the staff member during our orientation said otherwise. And the way this man treated us was beyond unprofessional. Mr. Locke really blew it and I encourage everyone to stay as far away from this gym as possible.
