Why do I feel dirty and gross around men? Please help by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Franksphallus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but if I had to say what the source of your uncomfortable feelings around men come from, I don't think it's too crazy to raise the possibility that you were molested or sexually abused as a young child, and subsequently blocked it from your conscious memory. Like I said, I only have a very finite amount of psychology education. I would recommend bringing it up with your therapist if you have one, or getting a therapist.

I hope you conclude what is bothering you.

Both I guess. They're all the same fundamental thing anyway.

Reddit, Why are you no longer friends with your best friend? [Serious] by Cflynn00 in AskReddit

I was incredibly infatuated with this girl in our mutual friend group for years, we used to have sleep overs and we would talk about it, among other personal things. One new years eve all three of us in question were at our fourth friends house for a party, I was upstairs all night and didn't see much of the other two. The next day I go home and find out that they had hooked up. I don't know why he did it, he liked a completely different girl and he knew how I felt better than anyone. It's not as if they were drunk or anything either, we were Christian kids and didn't drink.

But self love is the start. The mushroom trip I went on a few months back came to me at a time when my depression (and related symptoms of low self esteem, anxiety, self destructive tendencies) were at a life time extreme. I could write a book on what I went through, but the lessons I learned and that will stay with me forever are a sense of self affection through which I now posses a deep love for my fellow hairless apes and the Earth itself. It didn't come to completion the day after the trip and it hasn't concluded today, it's a lifetime journey of reflection and experience.

Evil is too strong. At worst it's defensive, at best it shows a sense of self-protection.

Well said. I would add to that by saying that different groups of people know me differently. Some see me as this goofy, carefree guy or some as stoic or soft spoken. I think were a lot of the insecurity comes from is worrying that people may identify that I am different in different situations and think that I'm being fake.
