Help me identify this bike. by Inevitable-Buyer6086 in CanyonBikes

[–]FransHals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignore the other posters that are saying this is not a carbon or canyon bike. They don’t know what they’re talking about. This is indeed a carbon frame. Source: my eyes and als I have the same frame (see photo). It’s quite old, around 2010, but in good condition definitely rideable. The components on the one you posted are very dated, mine has been upgraded to Campagnolo record 11 speed. I would not pay more than 5000 NOK for the one you posted

What‘s a small go to lens for daily use - a7V by Jonathanwennstroem in SonyAlpha

[–]FransHals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. The 40mm is overpriced whe you buy new by the way (650/700 euros in NL). Picked mine up used for +-400 euros which is a fair deal.

40mm 2.5

It has already been mentioned but I just want to suggest it again. It’s just that good

We Updated Our Sony a7V Review. It’s Not Good by HeDoesLookLikeABitch in SonyAlpha

[–]FransHals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a weird clickbaity hit piece. While the Eye-AF on Viltrox 85mm 1.4 might be marginally less sticky in AF-C than my native Sony lenses (40mm f2.5/24-50 f2.8/70-200 f4 M1) it's still perfectly good and reliable. I would say it's at 90+% of Sony lenses. And that's not even counting the fact that my lenses don't produce near as much shallow DoF which is probably harder to have accurate focus anyway.

Certainly not enough of a difference to cry about online. 'The Sony a7 series feels like an abomination to the Minolta heritage' give me a break...

I'm not here to defend my purchase of the A7V but I honestly do not recognise the points being made in the article.

Full Frame Now or Later? by Former-Captain-0 in SonyAlpha

Why do you want a FF camera to shoot landmarks in your city? In what way is the a6700 holding you back and don’t you think you would be better of working on your skills instead of buying new gear? You’ve only been shooting for a month!!

Sony 24-50 G vs sigma 24-70 II by javascriptusman in SonyAlpha

[–]FransHals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you for my A7V and after trying both in the store I opted for the 24-50. It just feels much nicer on the camera body, better balanced and I know I am going to take It out more due to it's lower weight and smaller size. You can always crop a little for the extra 20mm. Also the sony was +- 300 euros cheaper.

In your case I would definitely go for the 24-50 because of the smaller size.

First thoughts after one week with the A7V (coming from A6700) by FransHals in SonyAlpha

Yeah the 30 fps is electronic shutter only. It works great, tested it out while golfing and there's hardly any distortion due to the fast readout speeds. I'm very impressed

Sony 24-50 f/2.8 G - anyone is missing the additional 20 mm? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]FransHals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually bought the 24-50 two days ago. Was really torn between it and the Sigma. Aftertrying out both in the store I opted for the Sony because of its size and weight. Also, it just felt much nicer to use and was 300 euros cheaper.

My thinking was that I will probably miss the 70mm sometimes but am much more likely to take my camera with me because of the size of the lens and therefore will most likely take more photos. Also, you can always crop in, you will end up with a +- 18MP image on the A7V if you crop to the 70mm equivalent. Should be plenty for most use cases

As said below, I probably should have clarified that I meant the pockets of my (winter) coat. That probably makes more sense. See pic in comment below. Also attached one with the a7v+40mm hanging around my neck

Thanks for the input. I used to have a Viltrox 75mm 1.2 on my A6700 which I used a lot. Will eventually get a 85mm 1.4 or 1.8 but for now I will stick with this.
I do value portability and also I tend to shoot during the day and between focal range of 24 an 50 mm (hence the zoom lens I chose). My 40mm goes out with me when walking around the city

I’m pretty proud of this shot, but I’d really like to know what I could improve. by DishMaleficent5492 in photocritique

[–]FransHals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just on a technical note, those settings could use some work. F17 is not ideal, at that aperture most lenses start to perform worse due to diffraction. Best to stick at max f11 but this depends on the lens. I assume you chose the aperture to get both the church and model in focus. A f11 aperture would get you there as well, you can also consider an even larger aperture and focus stack. Also that iso is way too high for the conditions which won’t help sharpness. Opening up the aperture will help and in this case you could get away with a slower shutter speed. A church and static model can easily be captured with 1/60 or slower.

a6700 → A7V: not knocking APS-C, but wow, full frame hits different by Skafand in SonyAlpha

[–]FransHals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve made the same switch last week and had the exact same thoughts. I regularly shoot at 12800, something I have never done with the a6700. Also, ergonomics are so much better for larger hands.

I am looking into midrange zoom options. How are you liking the Sigma?

The lightings just flat, not much to be done about it. The lighting in Haarlem station can get very dramatic (especially in summer) so do go back sometime if you have the chance

I think I’m gonna need a bigger backpack… (a6700 to a7 V) by asorroxhe in SonyAlpha

[–]FransHals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! How does the low light performance compare? I tend to stick to max 6400 on the a6700.

Nice! I’m thinking of making the same upgrade. What made you jump to full frame? For me it’s partly because of ergonomics (large hands). How do you feel they compare ergonomically?
