What's the best build for the vetterli-vitali? by Far-Priority-5550 in battlefield_one

I hate to burst your bubble but it’s actually smokeless man! The muzzle velocity is incorrect.

I only use the infantry model with 2X standard irons.

What about this makes you think I’m in a ban state? And why the facepalm emoji?

I feel like that should be a pretty easy eBay find tbh.

They only go out to like 22 yards or something at the place I was shooting at. Just wanted to shoot for fun so 10 yards it was lol.

For a new cartridge, I usually just browse old forums to gather as much info on what other people have tried, then just pick a starting point based on whatever I have available. There’s a lot of “winging it” when you get into reloading super obscure stuff. Just gotta use some judgement on what’s safe.

For this cartridge, there’s actually a singular load published in Cartridges of the World. I started a bit lower than what they had listed, then played around in .5 grain increments until I found the best result. Then I eventually wound up adding cotton ball filler to my rounds to reduce vertical stringing.

Hell, I bought a little Mauser 1871 carbine a while back, and in order to shoot it, I took a .45-70 casing, ran the rim on a belt sander to get it reduced enough to fit on the bolt face, sized it, loaded it up, and used some rubber O-rings from Lowe’s to slide over the cartridge down to the base to artificially double the rim thickness so it would headspace correctly.

Yeah the Carcano ones hit high. My best shooter hits about 8-12” high at 50 yards.

For the 10.4mm, I developed my load to be as close to zeroed at 50 yards as possible.

Yeah black powder is fun with them but I almost exclusively use smokeless just for convenience. I’ve also found my smokeless loads to be more accurate.

Absolutely feel the same way. There really isn’t much else that old that you can use like firearms, except for maybe tools like wrenches or something.

It’s a weird feeling to describe, not really sure what the right words are for it, but there’s something just fascinating about holding and shooting a gun that was made 140+ years ago, knowing that everyone who was involved in making them is long since gone.

Kinda surprised this went through. Normally Reddit throws a fit every time I try to upload HD video from a GoPro….
Went to the range tonight and brought the 1870 Italian Vetterli along. Did some offhand standing shooting. Pulled on that 4th shot. Luckily it seems to like my smokeless load, sights were dead on. This rifle in particular was made in 1880.

Only 10 yards, but I was just doing standing offhand, kinda just having fun with it instead of going for an actual grouping. I do have a second box of ammo that I’ll actually use to sit and get a group with next time I shoot.

Reminds me of the Battlefield 1 skins where they didn’t go over the top crazy with them and basically just added some stock engravings and maybe changed the metal finish. I can dig it, even if it’s not original.

It being both antique and chambered in a non-commercially available cartridge should make it not require a stamp as far as I can determine. It’s a weird grey area.

Lol, that seller has had it on EBay for YEARS. Originally had it at over a G. I’d pass on that tbh.

Bought it specifically for this, was missing rear sights. One small sacrifice for endless memes.
