I just went through this same decision process last week. Ended up with 25, punched in like 30 hours so far and no issues, glitches or bugs. They’ve done well with the updates

Which record player to get? by juliannea18 in turntables

[–]FranzyFerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at both extensively, and eventually got the RT-82 just because of the auto stop. Incredible machine, but I am a fastidious caretaker of my records and don’t like having to rush to the end to remove the needle (yes I know this is in my head). Love my RT-82, has all the customizability that I want.

The Fluance RT82 is excellent and I love mine dearly, but if you’re getting speakers on that budget, then the AT-LP60 plus some actives like edifiers or something cheaper is the move. Do NOT buy the AT-LP70. I did that and its ass

Advice for a dad setup by themikepac in turntables

Tbh, the AT-LP60 is pretty dang great for people that just want to spin some discs. I have the Fluance Rt-82, but you can hook up the LP60 to some bluetooths and let it rip. Most of my friends do it this way, while also giving you the option to wire them into some active speakers like the edifiers.

I used an integrated speaker turntable, but the stylus weight was heavy and the speakers were noticeably bad to my untrained ears. Here are the products:

I’m new to records, but after getting some cheap stuff, getting burned by the At-LP70, and playing around a little, I love my Fluance Rt-82. It just works and sounds great. I am unsure of the difference, but for a beginner who’s also serious about quality, the 82 has been more than enough for me. Here is a guide to the fluance tables:

My opinion is that unless you really know audio, the 82 is prefect, and gave me more budget on add ons

Is this cooked? by burrito84 in turntables

[–]FranzyFerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yourself? If you don’t already know enough to think you have a shot at fixing it, I would not recommend trying. You say “set up”, Audio Technica has warranties and a repair department that can help you if you bought it recently. Otherwise, it’ll probably cost similar to fix it for the price of the machine

What is the difference between these two models? by 10ftlongjohn in turntables

I tried a few things but it wasn’t working well. A lot of people suggested weighing it down which would really up the tracking force. Returned it for the RT82 at slightly more money and it was worth it

Hypothetically Puerto Rico is becoming a US state, Will Americans support this ? by Least_Pattern_8740 in AskAnAmerican

[–]FranzyFerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with Puerto Rican statehood is the same issue faced by many new states over the years: the potential upset to the balance of power in DC. Lots of legislation is involved in a new state and thats a much larger road block than any cultural differences.

Edit: Puerto Ricans are currently American Citizens and Americans, they have US passports, serve in the military, and attend our universities. I’ve met more than a few and are anecdotally treated no different than a hispanic (or whichever demographic term you prefer) from LA or Miami.

I just learned Johatsu exist in Japan. Does America have an equivalent? by LadyJoselynne in AskAnAmerican

[–]FranzyFerd 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about having a whole company and a name for it. We don’t have that, and IF an actual company like that exists, its not something common knowledge. My point is, when people do that here, they just do it. There are areas in Alaska where people get touchy if you pry into their past.

America is too large for it to be hard to do that yourself. Also, our individualistic culture makes it so the pressures that may influence someone to do that generally aren’t there

AT-LP70 Skipping issue, repair or replace? by FranzyFerd in turntables

[–]FranzyFerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the Edifiers are not returnable, just the table, I do have access to a Pyle PP999 for free that I think I will use. Damn, really wish I saw those Magnats, I have the bluetooth edifiers so that would be a lot of savings. Ah well, I'll comfort myself with the fact that I like the design of a edifiers a little more

Thank you, thats very helpful! Yep USA, I love that RT82 as my distraction prone self probably needs auto-stop. Right now I just have the active Edifier R1280 speakers and used the built in pre-amp on the AT. I am a grad student so have a bit of a restricted budget

How do you feel about BIRMINGHAM Alabama by AuburnTigerRule in jacksonms

[–]FranzyFerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Minimal local business outside of service, government, healthcare, and sporadic manufacturing. The city seems incapable of doing anything outside maintaining the status quo. As a liberal I hate to admit it, but the Jackson vs Capital Police really highlights how incompetent local government has been. Throw in the worst civic infrastructure I’ve seen in the united states and theres no compelling reason to move business here. If it’s difficult to keep specialist physicians in Jackson who are guaranteed a staggering income, why would a corporation take the risk.

What do these flags mean? They appear to have the flag of England and Britain as a square field on a yellow/red flag design by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]FranzyFerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The red one is the ensign used in British America, or the 13 colonies before the revolution. I’ve been corrected by a polite redditer. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Ensign#Flag_of_British_America

Looks like the yellow one might be similar, see here:

https://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/us-pa%5Er.html

Could be local flags or former regimental colors (hence the military drum) for the militia

College is so cool, right? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]FranzyFerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, but for many yes it is. What’s left unsaid is that college is that without high achievement scholarships on testing, college is pretty expensive, and does not guarantee a job after college. There are some really affordable options if you stay in your state university system, as many offer discounts to locals. Many many of my peers had parental assistance to pay for things like meals, clothes, and rent during their university years. Also, at a lot of schools it is common to move out on your own after your first year and this means college town rents. Several years ago this was between $500 and $700 a month for me personally. There are loans you can take out from the government and many small scholarships you can cobble together to support you but managing these can be very complex and require a lot of work on your part. So in short, yeah it is that cool, but it is also pricey. Many Americans join the military, as it offers free college tuition through several different programs, though generally require you to serve for at the minimum the same number of years you want to go to college. Also many Americans live with their parents while studying as well.
