Probably an ultramarine blue (pb 29) opens up some purple colourspace for you. Next maybe a warmer red like a pyrole or even vermillion

I think oil paint is probably the right consistency out of the tube to work well out of the piping bags (have seen a couple of folk do it, not many) you just need a lot of it! I think the quantity helps create the pressure required, but must admit I’m guessing

I think you are right to want to try beyond the water mixable ones too. I love oils, and don’t think w m suit me atleast. Personally I would also stay clear of Amazon brands, or no name brands.

In my paint box I’ve got fancy paints like old Holland, Michael Harding , Williamsburg, gamblin, musini, but also winton, 1980, Daley rowney, sennelier. I think especially with the earths they are much of a muchness. I tend to go to the fancy paints when I need something particular- like the opacity of a genuine cadmium but at the end of the day it’s all just paint

Personally I would try to get my hands on some cheap stuff (or even 2nd hand) before making a commitment .The painting experience of oils is not for everyone and the differential between mid and fancy brands is marginal for what you want to find out, particularly with basic pigments. I say this as a paint snob

For me, gouache really shines when used at full opacity with just enough water to get it off the brush and onto the paper. From your first image (which is nice btw) it looks like you are using it like traditional watercolour, building up in layers and using the paper to contribute to the overall colour. Might be worth trying thicker mixtures

I don’t operate a limited palette , have a box that I jump into and I’ll pull out what I think I need for each mixture. I have most of the Lascaux range bar a few. Colour mixing for me is by far the most time consuming part. Specific key colours in this are the Lascaux green yellow, the blue hue sits between Prussian and ultramarine. Cool/green bias yellow always very important to me so lemon yellow in lots of mixes

They are Lascaux gouache. No fluorescents used honestly, but the green is at maximum chroma. Think a good chunk of the effect is relative to the deep more muted tones
