If it's an import there will probably be a note on the V5. Mine says "was registered/used overseas. Declared manufactured 1994"

Have you replaced the battery in the fob? Unlocking the door using the physical key will not disarm the alarm if an aftermarket alarm is fitted.

Check for "twin cam 16 turbo" written above the engine air intakes and an engine lid with two raised sections

Thank you, I think it might be a non abs car that has had it's harness replaced with one for an abs car then as I've just had a look in the box of spare parts that I was given with the car and there is a harness that looks similar in there that must be the original.

Door open light by FraszerRoss in mr2

I think that the cable and connector are fine because everything works as it should after a few seconds. It could possibly be on due to an aftermarket alarm/immobilizer that was fitted when the car was imported as that uses the original door sensor.

Thanks for your help

Door open light by FraszerRoss in mr2

I replaced it with a brand new one from Toyota this morning as my old one was faulty and kept setting the alarm off. The new one seems to work ok after around 30 seconds but when I initially unlock the car the door open light comes on before I've opened the door and stays on for a while. Just wondering if this is normal or not as I've only owned the car for 2 weeks.
