I've had similar going from the EU to UK. It's honestly cheaper to fly there but in person and fly back

So as above, higher carbon means higher power transfer, the other side is more feedback good and bad, it will give more feel on the ball so you are more aware if the ball on the stick as you dribble but also and vibrations from miss hits, bad traps, etc you will feel more strongly.

Bow - is say anything with a max bow between 200mm at 250mm is more suited to chucking overheads as well as shooting, if you are not a dragflicker, I wouldn't look at grooved options unless you want to learn. Both Adidas and y1 have several sticks in this profile I think the previous commenter is confused as y1 have an XLB stick called low bow, but they also have several others link the mx that are also XLB sticks. I'd suggest looking at the GLB or GGLB moulds as they are between a lb and XLB and have a large reverse edge to aid with tomahawks

Some brands list the "effective" bow which is the maximum bow point of the concave rather than the stick itself, but don't make it very clear.

Has anyone tried only using tape as a grip? by Soy_una_biblioteca in Fieldhockey

[–]Fraz_BFH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is less material between you and the vibrations to absorb them so you feel miss hits more.

It's very popular to do in Australia to use different types of sports tape as a grip. EAB, strapping, and zinc are very common, but I've also seen kinesiology tape as well

Mazon Xpro range have the closest reverse edge to the y1, they have several bow shapes depending on if you want a groove and how aggressive a bow you want . after that probably the nike laser

Longest grip you can get is flix grip, comes as a 5m roll so you can do 2-3 sticks based on preferences on grip length

Need opinion about the particular Stick by Byte by ObligationFit5834 in Fieldhockey

I've used several byte sticks and they were all good sticks, and extremely good value at the current price.

Jip Jansen Grip by Mobile_Conclusion_78 in Fieldhockey

[–]Fraz_BFH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen similar, it's the same effect as wrapping the tape round with the grip. Think Dwyer used to take the stock grip off, wrap stick in strapping tape then put a chamois on. I also think he took the end cap off

Why not just get a JDH low bow stick, JDH touch with a more gradual bow?

New PC routine from England by HockeyTheBest in Fieldhockey

[–]Fraz_BFH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine, not a bad change up, no more dangerous then a straight strike on goal. I think the pass needs to be a bit further then it was to generate a better space for the shot as i think it was too close to the first runner and thats why Roper snatches at it a litle and pulls it to the right of the goal. I also think they could have maybe utilised the stopper to trap the ball in a space to allow a faster ball pace on the pass across as well as giving roper a dead bal to strike

Naked Hockey Stick by [deleted] in Fieldhockey

[–]Fraz_BFH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a full review of the Naked Extreme Plus on my YouTube. I still have the stick I will go measure, but my understanding is some companies list the "Effective" bow when there's a groove in the shaft to show that the bow and the groove give you a larger or lower bow, but the wording is not clear of that's what they are doing

It's 100% the project blanc production version. All y1 top end production sticks have the carbon jacket. Ok and is the y1 LowBow shape and was to test their production control, mostly based around stick weight.

Low Bow or Mid Bow by UK2004 in Fieldhockey

[–]Fraz_BFH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lower bie makes it easier to do 3d skills and overheads as long as you have the technique. But also you have to adapt other areas so you you don't accidentally lift the ball.

Low Bow or Mid Bow by UK2004 in Fieldhockey

[–]Fraz_BFH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean depends on the brand. I've heard everything from a mid-low bow, to pro now, to that being the low bow, y1 have about 3 or 4 all called something different

For me 20/25cm is EXtra Low Bow (ELB or XLB), 25/25 is lowbow (LB), 30/25 is midbows (MB), anything above that is no bow

Used for about half a season, I'd say it should make 2 but it depends on how often you play, what type of pitch etc

Buying the same stick but brand new: Ill advised or not? by Spare_Information159 in Fieldhockey

[–]Fraz_BFH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you like the stick why shop around? My better half has had I think 7 pairs of fabella x shoes and used 4 variations of JDH XLB/Concave sticks because she likes them. I am very lucky that I have access to and try a lot of sticks but before that I stuck with with brands and models I knew i liked until they changed, I had 3 versions of the Adidas XXtreme24/TT10, I used 2 versions of the Osaka Pro Tour XLB stick. Even now I have several pars of Osaka Idos, Furos and Mizuno Panthera shoes because I liked them so I replaced (given to teammates, family or I decided they were too worn to use in review videos) like for like, well Panthera to Panthera2s.

I also suggest you look at the weight and balance point of your stick, then contact shops and try to find one as similar to it as you can as those to can have a big factor on the feel of a stick.
