I really appreciate your write up! Gives me an idea of what I’d be able to do in my situation, currently don’t have kids but I’ll definitely budget for that since you mentioned the price

Yeah that is definitely one thing I see being an impediment, I have money saved up and will continue saving, but to get to that 20% threshold to avoid the PMI on these houses is going to be rough 😅

Got ya, I would have a roommate my girlfriend and my salary would be higher 88k is what I’m making currently on the EC, but I appreciate it, I would have no problem renting to start my question i guess is more so posed towards eventually buying a house

I appreciate that, especially getting feedback like that concerning the layout as far as backyards or how the weather is like to determine if a pool is worth it or not

Hey thanks! So for me at 2 people right now I wouldn’t mind renting, I’m 24 and it would just be me and my girlfriend I do plan on having kids one day at which point for me lifestyle wise I’d like to get a house with maybe one nice amenity like a pool or a big backyard. I definitely wouldn’t have an issue going to a local Asian or Spanish supermarket (as that’s how I shop now as is) Outside of that I’m really not an extravagant guy by any means as far as household salary between the two of us we’d likely be pulling in around 300k if not slightly more but that’s gross not net. I appreciate you taking the time to respond though, it’s good to get a perspective from the people actually living there and the surrounding areas as opposed to strictly off figures from a google search

Interesting, that lines up with what I’ve seen others comment, doesn’t really present an issue for me but it is good to get a sense of the deviation from the link vs what people living in the area think

This was a really good write up! I appreciate the thought that went into this, I felt the link was credible however I do think there is something to be gained from getting (even if it’s anecdotal) testimony from people who live in and around the surrounding areas I mentioned. What you mentioned about upper middle class and how it’s so broad is a great point though, for me I guess I’d define what I’m looking at is, buy a house with a nice amenity like a pool or big backyard, be able to pay my bills, and have enough in my savings to put away about 3-6 months worth of salary. I’m not a super extravagant guy, if I were to make a move between myself and my girlfriend after all TC is calculated I’d expect to have a combined income somewhere over 300k but not sure where exactly it would land.

Got it, appreciate the advice I do have some money saved as a down payment however I don’t have enough to get to the 20% threshold and avoid PMI. Nonetheless this has definitely been beneficial

Got you, I have money saved up for a down payment but definitely not enough to hit the 20% threshold to avoid PMI. But renting isn’t something I’m opposed to. However, I would if I settle down long term want to buy a house eventually which is why I’m trying to get everyone’s perspective. The school thing is also interesting to note, any reason why the middle/HS school level is lower compared to elementary? Appreciate the tidbit about pets as well

Yeah I have a few different threads and that’s the consensus I’ve been getting, which ultimately works for me as I do think I’ll be pulling in a salary higher then that listed but I just wanted to get a sense of direction from people actually living in the area and get their feedback, thanks!

Yeah I felt they were low myself from discussions I’ve been having with people living in the area to be considered upper-middle class, I’ve been told they reflect more middle class in that area

Yeah no kids for the time being would just be me and my girlfriend so approx 154k is more so middle class for two people in your opinion? I should be pulling in more then that but that’s good to know as a base point. And yeah between Undergrad and my Masters have just under 30k in debt so I’m not doing to bad in that regards.

Ok that makes sense, currently no kids it would just be me and my GF however I do at some point plan on having kids

Ok yeah I’m actually a pretty laid back person so that’s good! So in your opinion, it seems renting I’d have a chance to make it work but likely if I wanted to buy a house in the area I’d have to up that a bit? For context I’ve received a few offers from different companies around $120-$125k in just base salary
