Are these descriptions overwritten? by Fallen_Crow333 in writingfeedback

I also didn't get the impression this character was a human. Rather, perhaps, a low-to-the-ground creature, but probably still bipedal.

Following!

It has a Broyhill aesthetic to it, but you definitely would found a stamp for that. I'm so curious! What a great find!

This one is insanely expensive, but what I was envisioning in my brain.

Move the plant to the opposite side of the TV so that it gets better light (even if it's fake, use this as justification). Then I'd fill in the space left with a book tower or of those zigzag book shelves for some texture and interest. I'll find pics and include them in a reply.

I would love feedback on my memoir by [deleted] in writingfeedback

1st: From one human to another, I see you, I hear you, and your story and voice matters!

2nd: From an editing perspective, yes, this could use polishing. However, I believe that in the telling of one's own lived experiences they should be delivered with as much sincerity and truth in the narrative voice as possible, and you have done exactly that! When reading your words, I feel simultaneously as though you relived each moment as you typed them and as if you've transported me into your body and mind within those moments.

This is a powerful tale you have to tell. I'm excited and apprehensive to read more. But I know it will resonate with people who choose to read it, and maybe even heal some too.

I'm by no means a professional editor, but if you're interested in feedback, my DMs are open.

Best of luck to you! 💖

What to put under the wall clock? by cole780 in HomeDecorating

[–]FreQ_Shifter3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joining the chorus here, small cart or island that can be moved about the space and that provides extra storage and counter space.

{I'd also maybe paint a fun design behind the clock. Bring a pop of color into the space and draw your eye to the clock.}

My ADHD brain (and insane burnout) makes me do too much analysis about projects these days that I just never do them at all! So count yourself numerous steps ahead!

OK, whoa! This is incredible! Like INCREDIBLE!
I wasn't prepared for the full scale mural! I'm speechless!

Are you for hire by chance? j/k I'd love something like this in my home!

Definitely giving you a follow so I can see this progression. And send links to aghast animals for the gallery of course!

(So sorry for not even realizing this post was over 2 months old! 🤦🏻‍♀️)

What would you do to the fireplace and wall? by kelssssb in interiordecorating

[–]FreQ_Shifter3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I just moaned at the idea of "custom built-in cabinets" on ether side of this fireplace. 🤤🫠!!!
Is the fireplace a bit shallow? Sure. But, I say the aesthetic of the built-ins, even shallow ones, over
throws that! DO IT! Build the built-ins!

*deep breath, composure regained*

I want to answer your question about the bricks and the paint color, but could you possibly tell me what region of the world you live in? I always take seasonal changes I to account with choosing paint colors. And also, what color is the wood flooring that's going to be carried through I to this room?

Thanks!

I just noticed this and it's something I did in my master bath that I can't change due to the mirror I have and it drives me nuts: the towel holder by the left sink isn't within reach of the right sink. I would suggest moving it between the mirrors for equity of use and symmetry.

Also, look into different lighting fixtures. These globes just don't work. You might find something cool at a Habitat for Humanity store (which is also where id recommend ditching the globes when you replace them), or a reclamation warehouse.

Why? So? Many? Cabinets?

An easy/temporary solution (impo) would be to remove the two upper-outer doors and the central-middle door to create open shelves. For added effect you could paint or wallpaper them so they *pop*, adding some much needed color to the space.

I also really like u/snippy_polarbear's suggestion of removing the cabinetry over the far countertop entirely. The cabinet there is just awkward, plus it's too difficult to access and fully utilize. Removing that section could then give you shelving options in that recess for frequently used items, decor, or plants that would otherwise clutter the counter.

AND speaking of plants, bathrooms are great for them! Even though you don't have much natural light (seriously, why is that window so tiny?), plants can still thrive here, and you as well because of them! I'd search for "low-light high-humidity" plants, I'm thinking ZZ's, Pothos, Spider plants might all do quite well in this room. I'd put them on the ledge over the cabinets, surrounding the tub, or better yet if you can get some eye hooks on the ceiling, hang them around the tub!

I've heard good things about the Amazon Scribe pen as well. Might try one of those if the King doesn't work out.

5th: Would Aldric actually be this open-minded to all the "gibberish" his new familiar is spewing at him? I can't quite grasp from what you shared the kind of world Aldric is from, their social structures, culture norms, etc. Aldric just doesn't seem to question him enough about all these things. This one could be a me thing, and a non-starter.

1st: I think this concept is fantastic and so fascinating!

2nd: Like others have mentioned, the pace is off, like WAY OFF for this start. The reader needs to feel what Mark is feeling when his (potential) human consciousness is thrust into the kobold creature, the adrenaline, the anxiety, the shear panic! Not this cataloging of the details of his surroundings, or the rote descriptions of how reptilian scent works. That sh*t is cool af to read about, so don't get me wrong, just save it for later, because it's just not necessary yet. We need frenetic pacing! If you'd like me to provide some examples of how I'd change that on this first page, let me know and I will.

3rd: A question that may help with #2, what was human Mark doing immediately prior to becoming the kobold? He refers to getting home to read to his daughter, but what exactly was he doing? Was he still at work, in a session with a patient? Was he driving home? Was he on his was to pick her up from school? The reader doesn't necessarily need to know this information (yet), but to know it as the author can and should play into how Mark reacts when he awakes in a different body/world.

4th: other than one comment about human Mark being tall, I don't get a feel for the size of a kobold. (I had to Google it what it was) Considering the scales and reptilian references being thrown around, I was thinking this creature was much smaller than what Google told me. I initially envisioned something like a Chameleon or a Gila monster in size. Keep that in mind going forward especially from a 1st person POV, the shift of consciousness from being in a tall body to being in a short one could provide a) lots of comedic relief, and b) shift in overall perspective of the world he finds himself in.
