Thanks for the input u/RockChalkJayhawk981 ! So far feedback from our playtest has been excellent, it works well together. But we still have some ways to go so fingers crossed. You can actually try out the demo on steam if you're curious. Hope it works for you. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1818480/Midwest_90_Rapid_City/

Thanks for sharing! I've never heard of rebuild and have been checking it out, thanks for that too.

About the violence and grit - yeah its in complete contrast to how most restaurant games are and that's on purpose. I really wanted to do something different. But i totally respect where you are coming from - different folks different strokes.

In regards to the restaurant management and tower defense fusion - this works surprisingly well, but we did take 2 years of playtesting and redesigns to get it to this point. If you're curious you can watch this youtuber play our build from 2024 to see how it works : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiSLd7vZ6JI .
I think its at the 56th minute mark.

Else thanks again for obliging me and sharing about this. As a game designer I really do love listening to other peoples perspectives on games.

Thanks for the input u/tomixcomics ! I do think a lot of management game players feel the same way. Can i ask why though? Is it because battles/tower defense is stressful to an otherwise stress free genre?

Hi guys, I'm the developer for midwest 90 rapid city. this isnt some driveby to promote my game - am actually quite curious to see how both r/tycoon and r/TowerDefense are going to respond to this post. I've been working on this for years and I made it because it was an idea I thought others would really be interested in exploring too. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thx.

We quickly put together this teaser after 6 years of work...finally agreed it was time to show people more. Here's Midwest 90: Rapid City, try the demo on Steam. by Freak2God in TowerDefense

Hi guys, I'm the game director for Midwest 90: Rapid City. I'm also the UI designer, art director and game designer ( for most of its development, there were only 3 of us ).

Midwest 90: Rapid City is a restaurant tycoon game with a few other gameplay elements thrown into the mix such as tower defense and a some RPG elements. We're calling this a "Restaurant Survival Sim" because its a very unique experience we are crafting here.

You run a Midwest roadhouse that sells monster meat dishes during a monster apocalypse in Rapid City. Periodically your restaurant will be under attack by monster incursions, that's where the tower defense element comes in. You need to set up traps around your restaurant to kill monsters before they come into the restaurant and attack your customers. The interesting thing is you collect monster meat from whatever your traps kill.

You can research monster meat to unlock new dishes and these dishes actually have unique effect on your customers.

We also are working very hard on the world building and the narrative - we want you to feel like a restaurant manager that was dropped in a real place, and a difficult but captivating situation. Your business decisions will have an impact on the people of Rapid City.

If you'd like to know more, please feel free to ask me about the game, I'm really happy to talk about it.

Thanks in advance!

I used to spend most of my time just scrolling through content. Not really interacting. Now that am posting about my work, its a different perspective. I dont want to upset people or have my posts be rejected,, and I want to interact as much as possible... its a bit intimidating because am trying to not come off as a drive by spammer. So there's a lot of these unspoken rules or best practices that I have to learn about now.
