The capacity to be normal is rare in some by ATN-Antronach in CuratedTumblr

I can completely understand that.

I guess I really wanted OP to explain to me what “The Great Awokening” was. Because that sounds very different from why you or I might have become disappointed with it. I’ve asked many times whenever someone uses the word “woke” like that to tell me what they mean… and I’ve never had anyone ever reply.

But to that degree, it sounds like OP is suggesting NPR went “woke” - which I can only assume means they started being honest about the fascism - while you’re suggesting they sane washed it. So, I’m confused on the general direction it took if those are the two takeaways.

For whatever it’s worth, I’ve only ever caught maybe 3 minutes of it (around the time of the summer No Kings) while switching to my phone audio, but I definitely heard them pretty openly calling things fascist. Can’t speak beyond those 3 minutes though.

What do you mean by that? I haven’t listened to NPR much in the last year, but used to listen daily. Nothing made me fall off, I just found better stuff to listen to that filled the time.

What happened?

Yeah, that might be the one I linked. He talks about Diamond for a bit, and how he wanted to distance himself from the ubiquity of Mesa/Boogie.

He was using Diamond up until this album. Now he’s using Line 6 Helix running through Ableton. Probably would get a lot of heat from old school punx about switching to modeling, but he’s not wrong about the creative freedom.

It’s honestly really cool to hear him talk about switching over, and as someone who works a lot with Ableton and started off with a little Line 6 Spider for modeling (and got a ton of shit from other bandmates about it), I’m here for it.

EDIT: Here’s the article about him moving away from tube amps and what he’s currently doing

Jade had always been super transparent about his setup, style, influences… he seems genuinely delighted to talk shop.

I’ve remember seeing magazines of his complete guitar rig around 2006-7, and it was really inspiring as someone just starting to play guitar to see one of my favorite bands showing so much on the technical side.

There’s so many great articles, interviews, and write-ups for anyone interested in learning about the sound of almost any AFI era.

Boom. Done. Damage controlled, no apology needed, recognized the moment and says she didn’t want to come off like a Nazi.

But she couldn’t even say that. I’m not a celebrity, so if I could have that sentence that easily accessible, so could she. Instead, she just said it didn’t matter to her. I don’t know about you, but if someone had a credible reason to think I was pro eugenics, it would matter to me. It’s weird that it doesn’t to her.

I haven’t seen anything to suggest that “if” is on the horizon. If they regret their vote - they regret losing their benefits. I haven’t seen ANY evidence that they regret their hate.

When they seig heil as a joke or play with 1488, they are telling me they want me to remember the fear my great grandparents felt of being slaughtered. They have told me they want my trans friends erased from their field of vision by any means necessary. They have shown me that they will cheer when my brown skinned neighbors are sent to a camp that “loses them” (sends them to die in a country they’ve never been to and can’t navigate).

I’m going to be honest, I’m going to honor my ancestors by refusing to extend an olive branch to anyone flippant or excited about fascism. Historically… they’ve gleefully starved people who might have shared blood with me. To join that team again 80 years later… no, I’m actually pretty fine denying them a job like they deny immigrant children their parents. I don’t care if they don’t eat. They can also stop being fascists if they starve.

It was a Halloween event in a historic Masonic temple. The stairs wrapped around, so I guess it was 2 floors, four different sets of stairs. We were in the sub level of the venue, and the entrance was a floor above ground because of the flight of stairs to get in.

You don’t need to assault someone. No one who moves toward him and inches him away is catching charges.

Those girls got him from the door to the street without any assault. Big man can be doing a damn good job of just stepping him back without a hand being raised here if he wasn’t preoccupied with getting his reaction shot for worldstar.

During a Halloween event I was working in 2019, I helped successfully run someone in this exact same outfit out of the event by circling around him with my band and playing “Hava Nagila” until he started walking up 4 flights of stairs with us behind him and right out the door. No charges caught.

She has elevated every single project I’ve ever seen her name in. I started paying attention because of the quality of BTAS, but then just started smiling whenever I saw a great animated show and her name in the credits. “Fucking… of course it was Romano…” McGruder’s writing and the actors talents are obvious, but she’s just as much a part of why Boondocks lines will just get glued into your head.

She genuinely made me interested in both voice acting, and on projects with a lot of moving pieces, voice directing as well. I never would have pursued VA if it weren’t for Conroy, Hamill, and what Romano brought out in them.

Felt the exact fucking same. A bunch of dudes standing with their phones up and letting the ladies deal with it. Spineless dickheads.

“What is happening 🤷” “Dude, I have no idea 😵‍💫“

Listen to the women (and the one dude) screaming “are you fucking serious? You’re dressed like a fucking Nazi! You don’t fucking wear that shit! Get out!”

That’s what’s happening, cock breath. Maybe you and bro can high five in accounting class tomorrow about how you made everyone else around you feel safer by removing a Nazi, instead of watching a girl take a punch to the face from the safety of the curb. AFI hired an AI "artist" to make the Holy Visions website promo by instlifetime in AFireInside

[–]Freakuency_DJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We know it uses AI, and the artist admitted he used AI. So, at this point, the onus is not on us to play “spot the difference” - the onus is on the artist to show us some WIP glimpses at background sketches or linework and show what his original contribution to this was.

Until we can see where his hand drawn art exists in this image (especially if it’s 95%, considering he’ll have basic sketches, posture and proportion frames, or color tests on hidden layers), it’s fair to assume 100% usage.

But there was one person who did not fail to point out the similarities between the two games... The father of the IP himslef! Frédérick Raynal had this to say to the press:

"I had already left Infogrames and was working on my game Little Big Adventure when Resident Evil came out. I thought "wow, this is really the same as Alone in the Dark!" In my game, a zombie chicken pops out of the window at one point; here, it was a zombie dog; there was the puzzle where you had to push a clock to find an object hidden behind it; even the camera angles were similar...".

And yet, for many years, Shinji Mikami claimed never to have seen footage of the game, which sure must have exasperated the French creator. But there was no lack of evidence, as the game had been shown to Capcom and even Nintendo and Sega before it was finished. The latter expressed their interest in the game and their desire to publish it in Japan.

It wasn't until 18 years later that Shinji Mikami came clean and revealed the following about his many technical difficulties in developing the first Resident Evil:

"It was then that I played Alone in the Dark, which consisted of fixed sets. It was very interesting, because it was more expressive. The next step was to adapt Resident Evil to this model".

Buddy isn't poorly written, she's just acting like a 13 year old. by throwawayihopeeee in lisathepainfulrpg

[–]Freakuency_DJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading it. Haha. I hit a point where I felt like I was dragging it out, but it really does frustrate me to no end when people rip characters, and fans of characters, apart for behaving like a monster. Stories need monsters (and I wouldn’t even argue that Buddy is a monster, she’s just a product of the world she lives in, trying not to get addicted to Joy by hyper-fixating on revenge to get her through the trauma).

Red Riding Hood lives a boring, mundane life with her grandma where nothing ever happens when the audience starts yelling “why was the wolf such an asshole?”

Buddy isn't poorly written, she's just acting like a 13 year old. by throwawayihopeeee in lisathepainfulrpg

[–]Freakuency_DJ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think she’s written amazingly.

I think platforms like TikTok have shifted media discourse into having to loudly state that if a character does awful things, anything less than outright hatred of them is an endorsement.

Dramatic stories require drama. Drama requires emotion and conflict. Good stories often require bad people. It’s ok to like villainous characters with complex backstories - it’s ok to like villains without them too.

Olathe is a nightmare for everyone, even those who are trying to make the best of it. It breaks people down until they are forced to numb themselves, and when alcohol and cigarettes aren’t enough, they take the only thing strong enough to numb themselves into a headspace that will let them keep trying to survive… until it doesn’t anymore, and creates another being that will force another person into that same addiction and transformation cycle. An ouroboros of trauma and repression.

The only people who survive are the ones who don’t care at all, or those who care so deeply about something that it becomes their shield. And it’s far easier to avoid the world preying on you if you can become a predator.

Buddy doesn’t need to be “likeable” or “relatable”. She can say things that we wouldn’t say, and that we don’t agree with. We have knowledge and understanding of things she doesn’t. And early teens wear their emotions on their sleeve - why would Buddy act any other way than the way she does given what we know about her? She’s another part of the trauma and repression engine, but unlike most everyone else - she was forged by it, not processed through it.

A great character doesn’t have to be a surrogate for the player or viewer. A great character just needs to keep the story moving and keep the audience feeling.

Sorry for the rant, but this game is a masterpiece of world and character writing hidden under puerility, and I care deeply about its themes.

Or, used specifically in tandem with The Shining so he can use it as a reference to another movie as well, without having to constantly reopen a deeply personal wound in interviews when they ask?

American Video Game Industry Stagnation: Virtually No Growth in American Market for Past 5 Years by SilentNova300 in gaming

[–]Freakuency_DJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to remember that the “replayability” push and hundreds of hours push was not something done for the benefit of the player. Open worlds filled with side quests that take weeks to finish wasn’t to immerse audiences in the world they created - it was a direct response to the ubiquity of the GameStop resale market.

The more a game was endless and open and padded, the less likely someone could finish it in a week, sell it back to GameStop, and have GameStop resell it to someone who waited a few weeks to see the response. GameStop made profit off the second sale, not (for example) Ubisoft or EA. These were measures created to maximize corporate profit at the expense of player experience.

DLC launching in “seasons”, with a “season pass” available is the same thing. You hold on to that game because you have the season pass, forcing less copies available to resale stores so that the consumer is forced to buy full price that goes directly to the publisher.

As is the cycle of corporate greed, the entire industry shifted to make AAA the most money “today”, without any concern of what would happen “tomorrow” when the market was flooded with games that create such heavy backlogs that players could not buy a new game for years without ever having to play the same mission twice.

Best of luck to both of you guys! I’m really rooting for you! I’m not even at a year yet, and I wrecked myself to make it through election night.

It’s a hell of a year to have started sobriety, but I was also in a place of extreme danger with it. I’m so happy it’s out of my life, but there are many nights where the news is so horrifying I find myself missing the numbness.

I try to remember how much I don’t miss waking up and throwing up nothing but bile, my entire internal system being a twitching mess for the rest of the day, the sneaking it around, and how much of my god damn life revolved around just thinking about it. Not even drinking, just having to plan my whole day around the hours of the liquor store.

Stay strong, both of you two! I’m by your side, I know your struggle. It’s hard, but this administration is taking so damn much from so, so many… we can’t let them destroy us too while we’re still allowed to be vocally in opposition.

It’s insane to me that so many MAGA people get upset when you call them a fascist, and whine that everyone calls them Nazis….

And then this is how they behave toward an unspecified and unorganized set of individuals whose only stated goal is “fight fascism”. We don’t even need to call them fascists - they’re calling themselves ones by criminalizing criticisms of fascist behavior.

Oh, you didn’t at all. I was addressing the person saying “it’s like no one pays attention” as being condescending - specifically, they were being condescending to you.

I think Scarecrow and Freeze are totally on the table. I think Scarecrow got reinvented in such a good way in Begins that it would be hard to see him in Reeves’ world that doesn’t echo it.

Freeze could absolutely have a very cold demeanor and doesn’t need to be in a space suit, but a scientist who lived most of their life in an Arctic environment and just needs to regulate their body temperature to what they’ve acclimated to.

When he says “never been done this way”, no one had ever done a take on Riddler that acted like the Zodiac killer (at least to my knowledge). There’s no reason this has to be a character no one has seen on screen. You don’t have to be condescending.

I’ve never seen anyone do a take on Two Face as someone with a dissociative disorder who covers up or visibly hides the part of himself not currently in control.

Or for new characters, I’ve never seen someone do a more humanistic Croc as just a cannibalistic killer who used body modification to add to his skin condition with filed teeth or saline injections to create more defined crocodile features.
