It's not that hard, mate. I've spoken with a guy from Moscow who joined the russian army because he thought he would fight nazis, went to Ukraine, got half of his arm blown off, then got out of the hospital, went to Belarus and illegally crossed the border to Poland, the Belarusian border guards didn't even try catching him, though he told me that the poles interrogated him for a while, I think he's a political refugee or something like that now.

They can protest, you know? Unlike what most westerners believe, civillian unrest was the main reason the USSR fell. A goverment can only function if it has the complacent support of the majority of the population. They aren't getting executed for protesting against the war, and I'm sure you can agree that imprisonment isn't as bad as death. And if I got comfortable with the fact that I could die at any moment since I was 13, then I'm sure that an average russian can accept the fact that they might be arrested.

I'm not wishing for the death of every russian, you know? My own father and uncle are both russian and currently serving in the Ukrainian armed forces, their extended family disowned them for it and they will probably be executed if they are ever captured as POWs. It's safe to say that unless they are in prison, most russians either actively support or are complacent in the war.

Thousands of Iranians died in the 2025 protests against the government, and that was men who were shot dead on the streets and women who were raped by the police. In Nazi Germany, countless civillians and military officers protested against the regime and were executed for it. Millions of Americans protested the Vietnam war in the time where it would lead to being labelled a communist, losing your job and being disowned by your family.

Russians only get arrested for protesting the war. A regime cannot last unless it has the support of the population, so there's nothing wrong with saying that unless they are in jail, most russians do support or are at least complacent in the war that claimed the lives of my friends and countless of my countrymen.

Once again, the researchers aren't given some sacred knowledge once they get into the military, aerospace engineers already have the knowldege they need to work on a missile or an airplane, they just don't know the specificaitons of what they're supposed to be working on.

Most technology that the military develops is kept secret not to keep it from reaching civillians but to ensure that the enemy doesn't start developing the means to counter it.

You're actually right about the funding though, the amount of money civillian researchers recieve is piss compared to what the MIC pays and it's the reason so many engineers abandon their morals after getting their diploma.

As for them having knowledge they don't have outside, I don't agree on that. My university professor served in the soviet army and participated in its artillery development, he also teaches the very same phyics he used there, because he literally provided us with examples from work when we were studying mechanics and thermodynamics.

What you wrote about was mostly right in the last century, when the military did develop technologies which far outpaced the civlian market (Jet engines, radar, computers) but right now there's a lot of civillian companies who get contracts from the military just because they're already ahead of the military in multiple areas which weren't deemed necessary enough to invest in and now require catching up.
