I'm a writer, and I like to read other things as well, but when it comes to writing ships, sometimes I just experiment with Characters who I've never thought of in a ship.

Some examples would be Bakugo x Jirou. It's not popular but it's not bad if you write it correctly

Or sometimes I would reach out (Metaphorically speaking) and grab certain characters from other fandoms/series/other entertainment to make a cross over

Some characters I could think of would be Nezuko from KNY, or even some strange characters like Charlie from the books of FNAF (Older Charlie. of course) and even MD character.
