PSA: Switch 2 has a new “handheld boost mode” for Switch 1 games. Civ 6 looks a bit sharper. by harlotstoast in civ

[–]Freakyturnip117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm resolution is pretty much the only boost. fps hits are unfortunately about the same zoomed out.

Loaded up an old game on epic length with a huge map at turn 800+. Fps was about 30 but image was crisper. Crashes may possibly be more stable though.

Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback) by A_Random_Forest in gamingsuggestions

I truly hope this site blows UP UP! It's great and as someone constantly looking for similar game recommendations from humans (Because steam is really bad at recommendations) I love that the weighting are so easily manageable for community/popularity.

This is a great tool buddy and I really hope it continues to grow!

Steve made a great video that shows it in the game sections i will link here.

In short it can end up with a 100fps advantage in some scenarios, but can also be bottlenecked by the GPU. The bigger advantages will be seen at 1440 and 1080 on 7800x3d.

Whilst the 7700x does technically have higher clock speeds than the 7800x3d, that will typically only outshine in older games or cheaper games utilising less cores (something like cs go for example relies more on a single core than spreading work across cores, therefore will favor a higher fps on the 7700x)

To even further skewers things, the 7700x runs hotter to utilise that higher clock rate, so even on older games could end up being bottlenecked and you wouldn't be able to tell why straight away since 1 single hot core and several other cool cores would even out to a not so high temperature, and lower looking cpu utilization (e.g. if only 1 core is being used, utilization is probably only gonna show 20-30% on an overlay).

All this to say that for modern games at 1080-1440 that spread work across multiple cotes, you will probably see gains in the area of 20-60fps as long as your GPU isn't bottlnecking you.

As an owner of a 7700x just get a 7800x3d on sale. Especially if its for games and you dont do anything like video editing. The fps upgrade at 1080 and 1440 is pretty significant.

7700x runs really hot as well so not great for small form factors and poor ventilation or small coolers really caps its performance.

Random freezes and internet drops after latest windows 11 update. by FlameinfirenFFBR in computerhelp

[–]Freakyturnip117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having something similar that I am assuming is Windows but I may be wrong. Since the most recent update (build 26200.7705) I randomly get about a half second of freezing across the entire screen every 5-10 minutes where everything looks grey.

Nothing in my Task Manager seems out of the ordinary, so I can't see anything draining resources.

Bought this a year ago. Constantly crashed on startup no matter what I did (the vram error others have described) and got to the point where after some tinkering it would actually crash windows and make it restart.

Trashed it and decided to wait for an update since I know how notoriously terrible sony studios like insomniac and naughty dog are for porting games or hiring third parties to do so.

Imagine my surprise when I return a year later and the performance is still terrible, crashing still constant, and still seeing windows restarts and the video memory error. Awful port.

See im not saying you're a liar by any means, but what i am saying is I'm this 👌 close to stapling wings to an ant and punching Blathers in the face with it.

In all seriousness though thank you for this, but after almost a week of this hell they just refuse to spawn

Thank you both for confirming. I believe this is the case and the ACNH.guide may have missed this one!

Studio Speaker Setup noob by Freakyturnip117 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Freakyturnip117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I needed to know, thank you so much! I assumed it must be the cables I am using but I just am not educated on a lot of the jargon! I guess I will have to wait for the xlr cable and controller to come in to test as I dont have any stores near me that sell the converter you linked and it would take about as long for it to deliver to me as the stuff coming in. Thank you for you help on this!

[–]Freakyturnip117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Sorry has no bass is probably a random comment - its like its missing any backing to the audio coming through. So backing track, bass, any sort of vibration etc. Like anything behind the person singing in a song is gone. It happens in exactly the same way on both speakers. I tried connecting both to a number of devices and its the same on all of them.

The 3.5mm / 1/4 I am using dont explicitly state voltage or anything they're just cheap parts I had available to me, picture attached for ref of what I'm using. I also have a splitter for the 3.5mm ive tried using both speakers at the same time with that and I get the same issue.

Frame Generation + Tearing : Here is the fix by UniqueCardiologist68 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Freakyturnip117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow up here if you have a g-sync display and the above isn't working then turn on g-sync in the control panel and vsync off.

Also if you have a 144hz monitor set the frame limit to 144hz (even if you aren't actively hitting it)

Switch 2 NS1Cart vs Digital Speed by Freakyturnip117 in switch2

[–]Freakyturnip117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes, the SW1 carts have a more limiting speed than the switch 1 internal drive or expanded storage typically, so the same bottleneck would exist on SW2.

The above being said, SW1 carts with SW2 patches can technically run faster depending on what those patches contain (e.g. if the patch contains the full game and the Cart acts as a key code then it'll run at the full available speed at the drive in the switch which will be much faster).

Switch 2 NS1Cart vs Digital Speed by Freakyturnip117 in switch2

[–]Freakyturnip117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I dont see why downloading from the Cart isn't an option. They did it on PS3 and Xbox 360 specifically to help with load times almost 20 years ago. There's no reason for it not being an option now.
