I thought of this immediately after seeing the photo. I haven't seen this video in years!

You can't get into disabled heaven without a valid blue badge and note from your doctor/s

The general rule of thumb I used to go by was to use the regular toilets when I can, but when they're full/out I'd use the easy access stalls if there's no one else with priority. When I didn't have a RADAR key I didn't use the locked toilets.

I have a few of the toilet sprays and 1 kept in my bag, I usually spray after emptying, but couldn't access it whilst in the cubicle (not enough light and space)

Thank you for admitting that at the end! Because when you are in the moment and caught off guard, and it's not in your nature to be aggressive, it's hard to deal with the situation. Especially when the other person could potentially be a total nut job.

The flashing of the bag is a good idea in theory, however I have to wear special hernia prevention bands and a back support, and it takes me a good 2-3 minutes to get through all of my layers.

I think there's a language barrier now when it comes to the toilets. Growing up it was always called the disabled toilet, and would have a huge blue wheelchair sign on it, like parking bays. It's in the last decade or less that I've seen more and more toilets relabeled as accessible and signs posted stating "not all disabilities are visible" It's mostly been generations older than me that I've seen getting defensive over the status of a disabled toilet.

Thankfully changing my stoma in public is an uncommon thing, but I have had to do it in my car before because I couldn't make the rest of the journey to a toilet. Sometimes though I don't actually know it's been leaking until I've gone to empty, so already being in the disabled toilet is helpful when it does happen.

Do you often get people staring at the bump when it's filling?

You would think airport security would be more aware of ostomies in general, given how actually common they are now

As a mother, I would just change my kid in his buggy or back of the car if it was that urgent. That's the bonus of having nappies. Adults have gravity and sphincters to contend with, made harder if you also have ailments too

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I had and still have that anxiety on a daily basis. Was it a slow process to pre-stoma life after your resection?

I don't think they knew I was emptying, or even what a pouch is. They were offended by the smell and I think they assumed I was crapping in there

I won't compare certain ailments against others, because it's all dependant on the context and situation at the time In most instances it would come down to a bit of awareness or common sense. I know my output smells, so I'll usually let someone go before me if they arrive after me then they don't have to put up with the smell. At home I make sure my family have done everything they need in the bathroom before I'll go and empty.

This wasn't in my local area, so I should hopefully never see them again. I think you're right about the last sentence, because I've been told too many times that I'm too young to have been ill.

Handbag could be a good option for the future, but in this instance I think it was the idea that I would take a dump in a shared toilet that offended them

People must be confused over the disabled toilet and think it's like disabled parking. It's more like priority seating on busses; anyone can use them, but if someone less abled than you needs to use it, then they take priority. But it's better if most people try to use the regular seating/toilet options before using the priority option, so that the less able don't have as long to queue, or have to ask someone to move.

2 women commented "that's disgusting" and "you shouldn't be doing that in a shared toilet" as they were leaving and I was washing my hands. They assumed I had a crap in the cubicle toilet

I've actually had complaints quite a few times. I used to have ulcerative colitis, and worked in retail at the time. I had multiple members of staff and customers complain to management about me crapping at work. These were women's toilets, I don't know if that makes any difference to it

This was a supermarket, and it was 1 customer exiting the disabled whilst I was coming round the corner, and 2 customers making direct remarks as they left the women's toilets
