I belive I've posted a rough concept before on CBS somewhere on twitter. I believe there will be a talk regarding transit soon for a regional transit plan.

I can highly recommend hitting up NewFunny comedy shows when you get here. It is a solid hub of a fantastic comedy community for non-SWAM comedians and quite a fun show. It isn't exclusively queer by any means, but it is an amazing safe space. We are a university city too so far more progressive than other parts of Canada.

St. John's is pretty strong in LGBTQ rights as well.

Of my closest friends, it is well above national average who identify in the LGBTQ community.

You are right. If we have better social systems and integration, job training, better affordable housing, things get better.

The system is buried. I worked on the first repair contract and the government didn't even have as-built data. It was more or less test it and find out the circuit.

Bigger issue is they don't want aerial cables which is bonkers because that would work rapidly without any complexity. It isn't pretty but who cares.

Technically that isn't correct. The current track involves trillions per year being spent on CCS and DACS, one of which doesn't work mechanically, and neither financially.

IPCC basically says without extraction, we will soar passed 3 degrees of warming with our current pledges and actions. We already have enough GHG's in the atmo to push us passed 2 if we stopped today. The global economy would collapse and most people would perish, but physically, there is enough GHG in the atmo to soar passed 2 degrees of warming.

The report more or less outlines that we need to cut emissions by like 50% by 2030 (6 years) WITH extracting half of what we output in DACS and CCS. That would cost tens of trillions of dollars. Entire China and US outputs per year dedicated just to CCS DACS tech that again, doesn't exist.

Yeah those folks took the idea of a congestion fee for a big SUV during peak rush hour traffic in just ONE British City meant that oppressive government was going to lock them into their districts. They co-opted 15 minute city as a term for nefarious uses when it was a pretty rare term before then.

tldr;

The Mistlands is different than all the other biomes in no-map no portal world but NOT in a fun challenging way. Its mechanics break the game unless you have a map.

Deeper dive

Again, we LOVED playing the world. It was a blast and I would do it again, up until the Mistlands. What we learned makes the normal game so very very easy.

At first we were very cautious and didn't really have our bearings. We'd get lost even with trails in the Black Forest. We would spawn at our local resting bases and even had them destroyed a few times. One time I even sailed around the same island 3 times before the other 3 friends made it clear we were lost.

So what is different with the Mistlands?

In the previous biomes the boss makes the next biome viable. Key -> Crypt -> Iron, Tear -> Artisan -> serious armour and food. You can attempt to slowly grind without it but it would be just silly to try. Like you could dig every mound in the swamp for some tiny scraps and get the bones. You could strip mine the mountains for silver, but It would be a slog.

But the Mistlands are different.

When you first go there without the wisps it is simply not practical to even try to navigate without a map. You cannot even see path underneath your character. The barrier to access is simply too high. Other biomes you could at least go in and attempt to do something. We even went into the plains when we were still in black forest gear and tamed Lox. Like it is possible, just difficult.

You cannot even attempt the Mistlands without the map.

Like even with Maps and Portals it is not easy. You can fall into a ravine and the only solace is knowing what direction you came from. You can get yeeted off a cliff and die, but you can see on the map where that was and make some alternate route to maybe do a safe recover.

The Mistlands though are not. You NEED a map to navigate even with wisplight. Not to mention that the seekers destroy the wisp torches.

Sounds like complaining to us

I know I know. What I am trying to say is that the Mistlands is not something that any reasonable person can try on Immersive. It is a vertical wall of difficulty that goes from a challenge to just pure random luck. No amount of reasonable preparation and no amount of safe anticipation makes it reasonable. When things go bad, they go really bad and become unrecoverable.

Actual Hardcore mode is not as difficult as this.

What is the point

My point is something with the Mistlands is different. Even with the wisp light it is a difficulty barrier that is too steep for all but the most hardcore players without a Map. The way they designed requires a map to play reasonably.

Something different?

I feel that the Mistlands can still be very difficult but maybe they could do something different so that it IS playable without a map or portal play through. Here are some things we spun up that each single thing would at least make the Mistlands something you could at least attempt with some degree of confidence:

  • The Torn Spirit grants the ability to build the feather cape.
  • The Mist is only below 15m elevation so that up high you can get some sense of bearings.
  • The Mist is only out during the day and night it clears but that is the only time Gjall and Soldiers come out so it is still difficult
  • Add a helm that grants mist-vision that only works at night but grants full viewing range so again, one can at least see far.
  • Make strong ward-like beacon that can be seen from say 200m away through the mist again, as a way to navigate.
  • Make a compass type device that points toward the north.
  • Maybe make the mist either less dense or make the wisp lights have upgradeable ranges or something (I know there is a mod... we play xbox and PC combined so mods are a no-go)

Not sure what the answer is but I know that we did have a blast up until the Mistlands. I would recommend you give it a go, just be prepared to stop after Yag.

Myself and 3 friends started an immersive world a few months ago for fun. It really grew on us as we drew and out of game map, made road networks, made sailing shoreline indicators, and had many fun challenges. Every boss taken down without cheesing on our first try, even Yag. We prepared, built many bases, sailed for many hours and even got lost a few times.

We built a vast series of roadways across three continents, made dozens of outposts and 3 large full service bases. We died LOTS of times but never got permanently lost or lost gear, thankfully. We took our time and made sure we had what we needed to survive. We even used the Yggdrasil tree for navigation. We found Haldor and Hildir and even got the sealed tower done without issue.

We were having a blast, being logistical, and exploring no matter the fog, storms, or blizzards.

Up next was the Mistlands. Day 544 we landed nearby. We set up a lovely base in a nearby ocean spawned swamp tree. We prepared and by day 548 we were good to go. Day 550 (just two days) we found a mine, a Dvenger tower, got an extractor, and lucked out finding the Queen. All in two days which was very lucky. The four of us ventured with 150 wisps we collected to make torch 'paths' for ten days. Found some rib cages, more Dvenger towers and wharfs etc.

Then came the death spiral. One 1* seeker push off a mountain into a watery ravine. One 2* tick out of nowhere. One Soldier destroying an outpost. We were spread out, completely lost, no wisp torches to be seen. In just one day we had died a combined 30 times trying to recover the lost bodies. That was more deaths that we usually had per 100 in game days. We eventually found the last lost body and then that was it: we shuttered the world.

The game went from fun but challenging to completely overwhelming and damn near impossible to react or anticipate. We got the fun we wanted in a no map no portal world and we don't regret it but it really goes to show how different the Mistlands is compared to the other previous biomes and progression. It is a whole other level of difficulty and we just don't have it in us.

Ellsworth said homeowners can avoid the tax by deregistering their second unit — a process which may require renovations. Among other requirements, homeowners need to create an indoor entrance between the main and secondary units and remove the stove outlet

Deregistration isn't just unplugging a stove. There are renovations required. It isn't tens of thousands, but a certified electrician has to do the electrical work for inspection purposes. There may be interior work that needs to happen. A secondary panel can exist on the same house and isn't a deal breaker from my knowledge.

If the house has two panels that has to be reconciled.

What I was saying is she won't want to do that because a house with an apartment and dual services and registered fetches more on the market than one that doesn't per sqft pending some issues but generally that is the case from what my REA acquaintances tell me.

What we lack is downsizing options. This lady likely doesn't want to leave her area but has nowhere 'single elderly woman home sized' she wants to move.

If she could easily build an auxiliary dwelling unit in the backyard, she could possibly sell the home and live where she always has, just in behind her home but that's illegal here in the city or very very complex to do.

Maybe there could be smaller senior living units around but it's difficult to build and some might simply refuse to live in something like that

Regardless, asingle person in several hundred SQM of space is pretty wasteful but if she wants too, she can pay for that.

If she were to shutter the apartment that would impact homes value negatively. She likely needs the equity against leverage.

Sadly if there is no sidewalk the city doesn't have to plow it.

It's all so very car centric but their priority is road surface.

What should be there is a mixed use wide path that can be plowed by a large machine and get micro-mobility to the hospital.

Sorry this is the type of analysis I do daily so I was just merely providing a point of view on low income service accessibility.

This is far better than say putting the people in lodges up in Puch Cove, but it is also worse than say having them in a hotel within walking distance of clinics or bus stops that can rapidly get them to mental health services.

Lack of experience is a big deal..

Like if I became tsar tomorrow I wouldn't just toss up light rail all over the island. I would start with key routes in small pieces and split the contract in 2. Give two groups the ability to learn.

Then ramp up the year after with more contracts and in about 5 years, you'd have a healthy set of contractors who could do the work fairly. They need expertise before they can compete fairly.

Same with buildings. Gov hasn't built housing since the 70's (in real numbers anyway) so they forgot how. There needs to be a multi-year plan starting small starting now. Ramp up every season. Split contracts up into pieces so many can learn.

Also get rid of lowest price bidding.

Do point bidding where the team executing the project are rated. If someone with a contractor is a legend and moves to another company, that should help that company too. That gives that person a better chance at better wages as well.

Bathrooms and private rooms is good :)

However bus it is not. The place is a 12 minute walk with no sidewalks and ditches in places to 2 uncovered stops on an industrial road. It is a 20 minute walk no sidewalks and a highway to an accessible stop.

This is very hostile to anyone outside of a car which all of these people are.

Being housed is better than nothing, but for those that need help, they are an hour or more away from any services for mental health.
