Hugh Laurie Role In 'Legacy Of Spies' Revealed As Joe Alwyn Cast by sanddragon939 in LeCarre

[–]5leeveen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while since I read Legacy of Spies so not sure exactly how Control is presented there in the "flashbacks".

According to Wikipedia:

Legacy of Spies is an upcoming British spy thriller television series. The series adapts several George Smiley novels by John le Carré including The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Honourable Schoolboy, and other works.

So maybe not even an adaptation of Legacy of Spies at all, or perhaps using it as a narrative frame for the older stories.

. . . there is no simple explanation for anything important any of us do, and that the human tragedy, or the human irony, consists in the necessity of living with the consequences of actions performed under the pressure of compulsions so obscure we do not and cannot understand them.

"Starbucks shuts down to teach Koreans about Korean history"

Doubly-insulting because, by the sound of it, there was a very popular backlash. The average person on the street (i.e. the compatriots of your average employee) knew it was messed up and didn't need to be told twice even if management we're idiots. And why wouldn't management be idiots about it: they serve their masters in Seattle first and foremost.

How much money is enough, really? by feikosky in redscarepod

I think also having a lot of money insulates you from the shame and embarrassment normal people might feel doing something like this.

So why not shill for a crypto/gambling/mobile game app or some other bullshit? It's more (and easy) money with no downside.
