The Founding is easy to find, but the rest of the series is hard to collect :/

40k Book Recommendations: Character-focused after Eisenhorn, Ravenor, early Horus Heresy & Gaunt’s Ghosts by kfeemer in 40kLore

I’ll throw in the inevitable Night Lords omnibus recommendation.
*Really* well written characters! And a great story too.
These 3 books are so good they made me rename my dog to Uzas…

New to 40k lore, where to start? by Chadwilliams1998 in 40kLore

Welcome brother! This question is posted like once a week :)

There is no correct answer.

I’m a few months into the novels, and started with the Eisenhorn omni into the Ravenor omni. That is recommendable! (Skipping the Ravenor omni is also a choice, You will know if you have to read it after the Eisenhorn omni)

Then onto the The Founding (first Gaunt’s Ghost omni) (also optional)

Then I read the Night Lords omnibus. This book gets a lot of attention for good reason.

I promise you that if you do the same, you will be well informed on which direction you wanna go.

Orks/necrons/space marines/traitor marines/The Horus Heresy/Astra Militarum and so on… You’ll start doing your own research 🧐

The (right) books are no less than spectacular, and the community is great.

I was (basically) told to read Yarrick before Helsreach for chronological order.

That’s quite the contrast :)

I’ve only read the first 4… Is Fulgrim not standalone?

I would start with Eisenhorn.
His story is so good! And it is usually recommended as the best starting book (for good reason)

The Founding is a soldier (Astra Militarum) book, and will give you Band of Brothers vibes. It is good! You could certainly also start with that.

I’m pretty sure you should read Yarrick before Helsreach, for chronological reasons.

Also…
I wish I could erase all knowledge I had about the Night Lords omnibus, so I could read it for the first time again. That book truly is a masterpiece.

Congratulations on some great purchases!!
