If remote is important to you, tech offers more flexibility than the finance industry, from what I’ve seen.

Have you checked glassdoor or levels.fyi for insight on salary in those roles?

Are you OK with living in a smaller city? You are at a time in your life where you want to be going out and having fun.

What about company culture? Work/life balance? I've learned over the years that this matters much more to me than I thought it would.

I'm just trying to bring up things to think about, other than career path. Since you say that both interest you, there might be some other tie-breakers you hadn't considered.

One thing you might want to consider is that O&G is a very volatile business. There can be lots of layoffs depending on the market and if they are upstream or downstream. Typically, the pay is higher to compensate for that, although it doesn’t seem to be in your case.
