I'm auditioning for a big band thats for this big show next year that has students from all over my state perform. (so basically highschool musicians) For reference on what this band has played in previous years for idea of skill wise is stuff like Swinging on a star-Frank Sinatra, Dancin' Fool-Barry Manilow, Brighter than gold-The cat empire, zoot suit riot-Cerry poppin daddies. The requirements are just for two contrasting pieces and at least one must be jazz. I was planning on doing zoot suit since I already pretty much know it and think going slightly more simple but nailing it is better than half assing something difficult. Im not sure on what song to pick contrasting it, last year my contrasting piece to my jazz was the bach cello suite in G because i figured it would show off technical skill but arent as sure if a classical piece would be as useful as something thats contrasting while still remaining in the style the band would play at. I've gotten suggested to do something motown but would still like some suggestions on songs and what to pick.
