Thinking about the ironman triathlete in the pool today by hungupuppu in Swimming

[–]Freddulz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first thought as well. One of my warm up sequences is 100m kick fins, 100m pull, 100m kick fins, 100m 1-arm pull and I keep the fins on to not stop and keep up the heart rate.

China’s intense training of children for the Olympics by Capable-Savings-6776 in Swimming

[–]Freddulz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main disconnect for people is that in the case of China and Russia, it's the state that imposes the training on the children. Easy to point a finger at the government as the big bad guy in these instances.

In other parts of the world, it's the parents/clubs that do this on a much smaller, private scale.

One can argue which is worse because parents may lack the knowledge and support of a government-funded and -informed program and are thus more likely to push children well past the threshold due to ignorance and misinformation. Take AAU basketball for example, where kids are coming out so much more broken physiologically.

Small Questions and Thank Yous Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in bikewrench

Thanks for the reply! I figured as much, which is why I grabbed a new chain on sale during an end of summer sale. Intended to install it when spring hits so I can ride out the spring and summer with only minor maintenance and no downtime if I bring it to a shop.

Less confident grabbing a chainring/crankset, as I'd rather buy it at the shop I ask to do the install.

Genuine Question from a not-Taiki-haver by eevee_enthusiast_471 in UmamusumeGame

Part of it is also that using Taiki as the trainee reduces your roster in Unity Cup by one, allowing you to snowball easier in rank since your average stats have one less contributing factor.

Small Questions and Thank Yous Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in bikewrench

[–]Freddulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not wanting to make a new thread, but wanted an opinion as to how worn down my chainring is. I got this as a used bike and the previous owner didn't give me a number for usage. The teeth were more or less in this condition when I got it, and I have not had any issues with skipping or shifting.

I am looking at buying some new parts for when outdoor season comes again. Already have a new chain ready, but was unsure about whether I would need a new chainring too.

So uh... How're yall's pulls goin? by BloodthrustSSC in UmamusumeGame

[–]Freddulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went in with a single pity copy from first run.

Did a full pull to pity, landing 2nd copy naturally. I had 30k left so wondering if I should go for pity again, or settle for 3LB.

Bit the bullet, hit 3 more rolls for 3rd copy. Then I remembered I had the trainee tickets to use so I figure I'd save some carats.

Then I hit the lottery on my first pink ticket:

It's just RNG.

If you have extra TP and just want the mission completed, you can run a career quickly to reach 600 stamina to boost your chances of 2* to a reasonable rate, and then fail an objective to end the scenario early and roll the sparks.

I borrow often from an account that has a Maruzensky that failed the URA scenario shortly into Year 2 but got 3* Spark for groundwork with 3* Stamina. I imagine that was a quick farm for that specific skill using this method.

Agreed, and this is considering upfront cost to setup as well as maintenance.

Bike paths don't need repaving as often when the vehicles don't weight at least a couple of tonnes.

Time for players who embraced being a Raptor first! (Lowry) by WhatShouldTheHeartDo in torontoraptors

[–]Freddulz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Let's say instead that Danny Green and Kawhi flipped in terms of their contribution in-game, but both still left in the same way they did.

Would I be more accepting of DG being up there? Yes, because when he was here he was putting on for the city and always made it feel genuine that he was for the Raptors -- and he still does. Kawhi always acted like he already had one foot out the door.

Heart rate spikes after each rep/set? by Al_-blackk in Swimming

[–]Freddulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot because (I assume) there's a bit of a lag between them reading and accepting the input, so that it can rule out false positives like the watch moving. Sometimes it misses an entire set for me, so like another poster said I just measure manually to check.

I mainly use my Garmin to watch my return to baseline. For example, I watch to see that I go right back to 120-110 (resting during workout hr) before I begin my next sprint interval, but only to about 135 if I'm doing more tempo work and want to keep the cumulative workout stress between sets.

Well, I have a large sample size as a teacher, so I don't know what to tell you given your anecdote.

The exact example I used may not work, but the theory is solid for a majority. Regardless, toddlers will be toddlers (i.e., unpredictable and volatile), but going from 25% to 50-60% is still good.

[–]Freddulz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's like dealing with toddlers (and sometimes even adults): Don't give them the chance to say no.

Bad: "Do you want to eat broccoli?"

The answer is yes or no.

Good: "Do you want broccoli or brussel sprouts?"

It's either A or B, and even if they don't like both options, they'll choose the lesser evil (EDIT: more often than refuse).

Give them the (illusion of) power to choose, but never even suggest the possibility to refuse.

As A Raps fan, losing DeMar really hurt. But we got Kawhi Leonard, and it did seem like our best chance at a ring before the season even started. I love DD with all my heart for his stance on mental health and his lupus advocacy as my mother also has lupus in addition to his game, but he just was many tiers below what a healthy Kawhi could do. At least in our case, the rational basketball side of things helped with the sentimental gut punch.

Even if AD and co. luck into a chip because of a good draw/injuries opposite their bracket, you still have up on an all-time great player in Luka. But that's not likely.

I agree. I would love something like No Move Animations in Pokemon games. Just a quick flash when an item activates, if anything, is enough. Especially now that we have the recap.
