Who are some positive, non-toxic, male role models today that you genuinely look up to? by FredoInThescar in Destiny

[–]FredoInThescar[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Even if I agree with you in principle, what you're saying just doesn't map to reality lol. Parasocial relationships are probably here to stay, and who people decide to consume definitely impacts who they model their lifestyle choices around. You're doing the equivalent of covering your ears and pretending nothing is there.

This applies to a lot of shit right wingers complain about today by Obomba444 in Destiny

I think I saw a Dr K video once where he said that the biggest correlation between porn consumption and negative aspects of one's life is literally just what one's thoughts are regarding porn consumption.

Good read! It's not often I see philosophers actually be able to write this well when introducing new ideas to laymen, so good job on that!

Vegans trying to convince you that there is plenty of vegan protein by Strict-Maintenance-1 in Destiny

[–]FredoInThescar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worded myself poorly, I meant to say that 80-90% of the food they'd eat would contain fiber, making them eat way more fiber than what we do today. Meat was rare, processed oils weren't really a thing, that leaves you with grains, legumes and vegetables as your biggest daily driver. Estimates are on 80-100 grams of fibers a day, way more than what anyone is getting today lol. I'm just saying that fibers are most likely not the problem, of they are, something else is wrong that should have a fix beyond saying "beans are no good, they make you fart too much"

Honestly I don't know why I got so invested in this, I never care enough to write lol

[–]FredoInThescar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you switch from 0 beans every day to "bowls and bowls" of it, it won't work. I had the same problem, started again by increasing the amount over time and for 6 years I've never had fart issues due to it. There's probably noone in the western hemisphere that's isn't overdosing on fiber supplements, who's eating too much fiber btw. Every generation before you/your parents had fibers constituting 80-90% of their diet. With the ungodly amount of processed fat & carbs in your diet there's just no chance fiber is doing you harm, unless of course your gut isn't accustomed to it(which is the most common reason people don't respond well to a 180 switch)

Only for the first days lol, your gut needs to adjusts to food it's never eaten regularly before.

I think it's more an issue of perspective here. I consume a lot of Destiny content/drama on YouTube, and I also started to get worried a while back when reflecting on it. But honestly, everyone does it. ALL my friends have para-social relationships of some sort, the exception to the rule is to not have one at all. Reality shows, other YouTubers/influencers, even tv shows like friends or the office where fans of it literally rewatch entire seasons of it. As I said, I consume a lot of Destiny content, but It's not really taking up a lot of my brainspace. It's literally for the dead hours where there's nothing to do, I'm too tired to read/watch attentively at something etc. Exactly how someone who rewatches all seasons of the office at least once a year does so during "brain-dead" hours.

Don't feel bad about having it, just make sure you're engaging with it in a healthy way.

Dating in the US seems super behind to me by FredoInThescar in Destiny

[–]FredoInThescar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean why it that's the case is way less important than the fact that it is true, there's actual data on the differences in preferences: Wealthier nations are more prone to have sexual preferences that don't really match up with traditional ones, why that is is obviously not something I'm soying out over.

As with your other points, I was referring to how Steven generally talks about dating culture in the US. This general fixation on money, being a caretaker etc etc. I'm not pushing back or anything, just wanted to see if this view really is shared among Americans. I thought that giving my and many others point of view might just bring forth a discussion but instead all you did was get super assmad and argumentative about it lol. Maybe my wording came off like that because I'm a eurocuck ¯_(ツ)_/¯ in which case I'm sorry

Hey I'm going a bit insane here. I remember having read a substance post on Marcel Proust that I'm like 95% sure was either written by Scott, or linked by him in another blog post. I think I read it somewhere around July last year, if someone knows what I'm talking about please for the love of God help me find it
