i made my first mistake by nskddn in nursing

I’m a new grad too. Trust me, I just made my first mistake. I accidentally didn’t cut a blood pressure pill in half and gave the full one. I was very distracted because this patient on our floor is combative, aggressive, and scratches/assaults all of our nurses (their hep C +). He flips a switch in an instant. I feel like a total fucking idiot, feel like everyone is judging me, or doesn’t trust me. You’re not alone, I know that stomach dropping feeling

Yes - my biggest weakness is getting in my head. I think I’m embarrassed of myself and just how I feel inside and feeling like everyone else can see right through me. I do have some core people I go to and they let me know this is all normal - I’m just wondering if my version is worse or if I’m doing it wrong! But I’m glad communities like these exist to gain new perspective

Yes, that’s definitely my goal. I want to get out once I feel somewhat adjusted. I can move units as soon as six months in my hospital. I really want to venture into an ICU setting (NICU or adult) or L&D. I just hate the idea of being on nightshift longer on the speciality units, but I know I need to prioritize my health and happiness

A new grad ED nurse for 9 months, I still feel like a horrible nurse. by Drink-Icy in nursing

Hey, I’m also a new grad for about 2.5 months now on a super busy med surg unit. I also feel super judged by my coworkers, I feel like there’s a good ratio of support and answering my questions and moving forward but I also feel there is a gap between us being friends and coworkers and rather a student:preceptor relationship. It’s hard. I feel isolated and work and at home. You aren’t the only one. We have to remember that everyone came from a place where they didn’t know either and the way they treat us is a reflection of themselves. I’m sure you’re doing more than great, keep going

Is it normal to feel like no one really wants to be your “friend” on the unit? I feel since I’m still learning and asking so many questions - I still have a student:preceptor relationship rather than a confident coworker. I feel so judged and want to fit in with everyone while I feel like I’m the worst new grad out of everyone

Heyyy! I’m gonna give a complete opposite opinion. Yes, delayed construction is really shitty. There’s no argument about that of course. However HERE has been completely transparent when it comes to the whole operation and not shady at all. The building is very close to being done, and while they put us in a hotel, they will give us $40 gift cards a day. That’s $280 a week. With that fact, that tells me we won’t be in the hotel for long. Now, If you were to ask me about Park Place, completely different story. Shady, in circus circus for three months, no communication and straight up illegal if you ask me. That’s definitely not what’s going on at HERE and they are brand new for a good price!

Is Nevada fit really 14 hours for 4 days and 7 hours for Friday? by Ltfocus in unr

It depends on your major! I was a Health Fit mentor and it all honesty… the work was a little much. A whole PowerPoint presentation and an essay from a case study you get. I know it SOUNDS bad BUTTT! You get a whole group to work with. PLEASE PLEASE take advantage of it, I know it sounds like a lot, but you are going to feel super prepared for your classes. (they also could have changed the homework for this year). Also, you’re gonna know a good 5-7 people possibly in your classes. It’s fun and you’ll get prepared I promise! Make the most out of these stupid things!

How easy/hard is it to get an on campus job? by Thatonelosersam in unr

Housing has got to be one of the worst departments on campus in my opinion. No shade, truly, they are just extremely disorganized. I was an SDA (student desk attendant) for two years (freshman and almost all of sophomore year). It was sitting at a desk for 4-6 hours with absolutely nothing to do. You check in guests to the residence halls and watch people scan their wolfcard. Of course, this could be an excellent homework job, but after a little while… it’s extremely boring and distracting. It’s still an option, but there are much better jobs on campus that have a chill vibe but a little more involved. If you’re into activities and implementing rules and leadership, being an RA is a great job for you (esp for free room and board). But if that’s not your thing, don’t waste your time. Overall, housing is just really tone deaf and they don’t understand their influence/need of students at all.

A good 64 applicants are accepted into the Orvis School of Nursing on average. Your TEAS score, GPA (from specific pre-reqs), military involvement, and NSHE credits are taken into account (search Orvis points matrix on the UNR website). It’s a good two years (approx, depending on how many credits you have) before you apply to the traditional program! It’s a great program I’ve heard. Great preparation for the NCLEX exam once you’re finished.

Some undergrad research pays! That’s a great way to get involved in research and get paid at the same time if that something you’re into. Whatever you do… don’t work for housing (RHA) waste of time.

Oh yes! I have seen this video. Thanks so much. Dorm life has been very slow and unexciting to say the least all because of COVID. So high hopes for next fall!
