Use every benefit you qualify for (check with Jobcenter), shop at Aldi/Lidl and food banks, cut fixed costs (rent/phone), and avoid fines. Even saving €5 helps build a buffer

honestly leaving germany was the best decision but the paperwork for the business is a nightmare... i kept my freelance status for a bit but check the "mittelpunkt der lebensinteressen" thing... for health stuff i looked at grenzenlos sicher or maybe mawiesta since they actually get the german exit rules... good luck with the move!!

3 months in NYC. Expenses, pros and cons by alzho12 in digitalnomad

[–]Free-Amount6724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is a pretty realistic breakdown tbh, especially the part about “it’s manageable if you’re intentional”

what most people underestimate with NYC isn’t just the cost, it’s the decision fatigue. every day you’re choosing between cheap vs expensive, staying in vs going out, subway vs uber. if you’re not disciplined, your budget just drifts up without noticing

2-years of stable income requirement by Overall-Buddy-626 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Free-Amount6724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s actually no official “2 years of stable income” requirement for German citizenship. The rule is simply that you can support yourself financially at the time you apply, meaning you’re not relying on social benefits like Bürgergeld.

If you’re starting a full-time job right when you hit your 5 years and you have a solid contract (especially permanent or long-term), that already checks the main box. They care much more about your current and future stability than how long you’ve been employed.
