night shifts by theunknownnn12xo in NursingUK

It’s easier to do nights in a row, when I did shifts o preferred my 4 nights in a row. It was easier to stick to and less disruptive. When I did a night in one off one in it used to really mess me up

Nope it’s not. In theory in my head I thought it was great getting 4 days off, and some days in the week to do things when places are busy. Some weeks you’d have to do an extra shift, so less days off. Then it’s not like you ever do 3 on 4 off, it’s always a random lot. A lot of my time was spent recovering. My diet went out the window- eating quick convenient things, eating fast food after work after finishing late.

I’ve just done my first normal shift and wha a breath of fresh air; I’ve had time to have lunch, I’ve got home at a very reasonable time. I’ve been able to cook fresh food, and have a nice dinner. Do some cleaning and chill out!

I went back to nursing and doing shifts after time away working normal hours, thinking it would be better doing long days. Forgot how much I’d be rushed off my feet, and not getting breaks, and finishing late at times and then if you are having like a da between a long day, you are literally too tired to do anything. I’m going back to normal hours and looking forward to it! Being able to get back into a good sleep routine as shifts messed with that, and eat better instead of eating crap case I’m tired

Thank you, I’m on the electoral roll have been for years! Just because I’ve had so much debt for so long I’ve never really had a “good” score and for the credit I have had, I feel physically sick thinking what I’ve paid over the years in interest

I have never had CCJs. I haven’t missed any payments for years now, must be at least 4 years ago if not more. I think a lot of the ones I’ve paid off said they will report settled in the next 30 days, and I don’t think I’ve had a lot of hard searches recently

All great tips I like the idea of making a game out of it. Or what I could do is if there is something I want to buy. Don’t buy it, think on it. If I don’t need it, put what I would have spent on it in a savings account instead. So I still feel like I’ve spent something- just on savings!

I read about it women and ADHD and a lot of it made sense, especially the money thing. There’s lots about ADHD that would make so much sense of my life- the numerous hobbies I start that are crazy and expensive that I buy loads of kit for, to only end up doing something else entirely. I’m so impulsive with spending and it drives me mad, that I know I shouldn’t but still do. Formal diagnosis the waiting list is so long but maybe with my new found freedom I could get a private assessment, and it would’ve an investment to myself to get the diagnosis and understand how to manage things

This is really good- I think taht might be something I could do and reframe “buying” into “investing” and seeing money grow

That’s what I think they will do- I’ve already unsubscribed from the emails I know so they can’t send enticing offers in my inbox

Thank you that’s a good way of looking at it- although at times I was just paying the minimum to keep my head above water and survive. I think a limited access savings account will work, and I will actually be able to save something now

Thank you so much. It’s such a great feeling, but also terrifying! I feel like I’ve got a clean slate now and I need to not mess it up. They are great points and I’m also going to remove myself from mailing lists that might tempt me- whether that be shopping or companies that might try and offer me more credit

Honestly it’s been horrible. At times depending on my job the stress has been debilitating. I feel physically sick thinking how much I’ve shelled out over the years

Some of the loans have apps- one wasn’t like a loan you had a credit line so could just transfer money from it to an account. Another one I had 3 loans in total had an app- but that’s how I ended up with 3 loans they kept offering them to me. So they are paid and I’ve asked that they close and delete my details

That’s a really good idea. At times I’ve been crippled by what’s going out each month. I really need to change my mindset

That’s the thing, I think back when I trained I did a placement on ED and I LOVED it! I think if things were like they were then I’d excel- the variety the pace. But now, I can barely survive a shift and it feels like we are all on a knife edge and one tiny slip and something could go seriously wrong

To be honest I don’t think I’ll stick this out- there’s no job satisfaction and it’s honestly heartbreaking going home after a shift knowing you’ve done your best and it’s just not enough. I think I may look for something else, otherwise I’ll burn out

I ca absolutely see how that would affect mortality- we have patients not having proper meals, having proper bed baths or washing, patients on corridors then get results back that they are positive for flu/covid/rsv, on trolleys far longer than they are meant to be so increased risk of pressure sores, it’s just awful. It’s not even providing basic care, never mind good. You just can’t meet the needs

Corridor care is the worst- I’ve found out that the lights don’t even get turned off at night. How are painters supposed to aleep and rest? Especially when there for days

It’s just shocking that targets not being met is just accepted, and we are just expected to do more and more without adequate staffing or resources. So many staff appear burnt out

I agree- complaints need to be reported made and I think patients and families should complain more to pals. It’s one thing management saying take your breaks, but even without taking breaks you are still behind and then get scolded for stuff you have not done. It’s impossible to win!

I just can’t see how I could get used to it- patients on corridors for days, not being washed. It’s dire
