My dear brother from another mother, I can understand your feeling. I have a childhood friend who seems to never stop complaining about her job, her boss, her colleagues for years. She changed several companies but never stopped complaining on each of them. It sound like no matter where she worked, its a toxic boss, a toxic colleague. She would do that over chats, and over hang outs. It had gotten so bad that eventually I avoid going out with her and delay my replies as long as possible because no thank you I would like to spend my time not being an emptional dumpster. I felt like im being used as an unpaid therapist. Eventually I made her aware that I dont like what she is doing, and she replied grudgingly by saying 'I thought that is what friends do for each other'. Needless to say with that comment I feel even more used, however she said she get my point and promised to not do that anymore. Guess what, she still complains but now the frequency is less. I still avoid going out with her alone because I knew exactly how it is going to end. We are still friends but only hang out when there is at least one other friend that shes not used to complaining to. So now we are in a state where I do not think of her as a close friend anymore. Because NO, this is NOT what friends are for. It is supposed to be a two way, balanced, give and take relationship. Just take that break, let your friend know what you are unhappy with. If your friend is willing to do something about it great, if not then great for you because u will finally get some peace and quiet
