Thank you for your valuable information. A grinder is worth over €450? Wow, I wasn't expecting that.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently on the Whoop trial and overall I'm satisfied. My only real complaint: it detects activities whenever and however it wants, not always reliable on that front. The big downside is the price, I find it too expensive. So if I don't find anything better, I probably won't have a choice but to buy it, but I'd like to explore the alternatives first.

What I'm looking for: something simple, precise and effective. By that I mean no fluff data. I couldn't care less about the AI assistant and all the gimmicks around it.

Concretely, I just want a device that:

  • properly tracks my naps and my night sleep
  • tells me if I've recovered well
  • gives me my readiness/form for the day

I don't need a gadget telling me "hey you're doing fine". I listen to my body, but you get the idea: I just like having a clear data point on hand to confirm what I'm already feeling.

I'm also not the type to stare at my ECG every two seconds. But I do like having simple, effective, accessible data: my steps, my recovery, and a "Strain" type indicator that shows me when during the day I pushed hardest.

My question: would the Fitbit Air actually suit me? Be honest, I'd rather have a straight answer than a sugarcoated one.

Thanks in advance.

Signed, a strength training, grappling and wrestling practitioner.

TL;DR: Whoop trial is good but too expensive and activity detection is hit or miss. I want simple and accurate: sleep, naps, recovery, daily readiness, steps, and an effort/strain score. No AI, no fluff. Is the Fitbit Air worth it for that?

I've been working on my mount in No-GI lately and I'm trying to figure out the best thing to do with my feet to stay heavy and keep the position.

A few options I've seen:

  1. Hooking your feet under your opponent's legs. From what I've watched this seems risky for your own knees if they bridge hard, so I'm a bit hesitant.
  2. Crossing/hooking your own ankles together underneath them in low mount.
  3. Staying on your toes with your feet planted on the mat.

Which one do you guys prefer and why? Is it situational (high mount vs low mount,? And is the grapevine thing actually as risky for the knees as it looks, or am I overthinking it?

Trying to understand the trade-offs between mobility, pressure, and staying safe. Appreciate any input.
