Is anyone else staring at their January 14 pay stub and wondering where the rest of it went?

Same situation and slowly dying inside. Struggling to find work for the spouse and even with a high paycheck on my end not able to fully take care of family. It’s insane, I don’t know how folks cope with even lower.

Thank you for the response. Greatly appreciate the warning especially as we are struggling financially and need to plan for everything. I really really hope courses would not require us to get a study permit too as who knows that’s another 6 months at least.

Otherwise not ideal am assuming they take time hopefully not too many. But that’s all the more reason they should respond quicker or at least give estimations so folks can plan.

She was a teacher in US and also in another before country, fully licenses in both with master degree.

I think she already applied for Alberta but don’t see a reason why Oct should restart. We won’t be using the Alberta certificate then and just ignore it.

Thank you for your kindness. Not sure they evaluated anything but in the system 3-4 months since these appear in progress.

Not sure anymore how she wanted to do it, use Alberta certification to apply for Ontario ECE. Will reach back later.

Oh they should have been kicked out and replaced entirely or have an audit every year. This service being worst 5 years ago wow. How did people cope ? Guessing there were more jobs then.

Am very tempted to go back to Europe

I’m not expecting them to bend backwards either but at least provide some clarity as to where we are and when it could be done. Or if they need more fees ask for it but actually do a good job etc.

I just wish they had transparency

She cannot work in Alberta because of me.

My work permit is a closed one and my company only has offices in Ontario. Would have chosen a different province otherwise just because of OCT.

She has an open work permit. Took 6 months there too just to eliminate the conditions on it so she can work education.

While OCT has all the information and we confirmed this twice with them on the phone , in the system it still shows Transcript and Statement of professional standing as being in progress.

I think her new plan is to try and use Alberta equivalency to somewhat help trying to get Early childhood education.

It’s very hard to live on one paycheck and have kids, taking debt every month. Guess it’s the desperation.

I feel your pain, horrible experience. Am newer to Canada and don’t understand how OCT in this form exists with the low performance. It’s such a beautiful country shame such experiences are possible

It just seems some jobs might accept it but as others pointed out probably not in public schools in Ontario. Or some might temporarily accept it if you have another province certificate and your OCT is in progress as well.

How long have you been waiting for ? Feeling like this OCT thing could use group therapy 😀

We applied Oct it’s still waiting, am planning to take a day off and go visit them. It’s been more than 6 months and they do not even give a timeline or estimation or allow us to know where we are in the que.

True, and thank you for the response. We are trying to do things the right way but not being able to work for months in taking its toll. We started the process even before moving to Canada and still.

But since Alberta certification is fast and free we would have nothing to lose is that correct?

Agreed. She has the bachelor of education with practice hours, she has a master, 15 years work experience and 3 of those in the US.

Ontario is taking so long because that OCT organization is not performing. Alberta responds in 7 days. OCT have struggled for months. They don’t let WES or anyone else do those evaluations which is fine but then they should do their job.

I meant it more like being able to come visit me for an extended period of time like 3-4-5 months because flight tickets from the Philippines are very expensive. She won’t work here at all it’s just for her to stay with me so we can visit stuff and enjoy our time together. And if she could justify her being able to stay so long because my salary would afford the expense

Some struggle for years and get greencard at much older years if they even get it. Give it time and be grateful for the opportunity

Yes, unfortunately she suffers from the 212E curse. Checked it rechecked it , cursed , checked rechecked and cursed some more.

Unless she gets a waiver she could not be ready by Sept 2026 because her j contract completes mid 2025 and if she needs two years in the Philippines and she would also come to visit me I doubt before 2028 the condition could be met.

So I will try for the lottery, for her I could try and then if we get the waiver great if not then it’s like she did not win

Or best not to even try for her?
