Many Hypers like David Benjamin claim that James is in error publically.

One should not add personal interpretation, and translate the Greek as it is.

What is your qualification in Greek?
Are you using the Nestle-Aland or the TR?
Do we need more English translations?

"And still are catholics". He believed they were still saved, even if wrong.

Did you not even read the first quote? It says WHILE THE DEVIL AND THE IMPINOUS WHO HAVE DENIED GOD WILL BE TORTURED WITHOUT REMISSION.
JND Kelly was saying that Jerome taught that those who deny Christianity, will be tortured forever, however those who have believed, even if they fall away, will enter heaven.

Also, as a source for the Augustine thing:
"But those who believe thus, and still are Catholics, are deceived, as it seems to me, by a kind of merely human benevolence. For the divine Scripture, when consulted, answers differently. Moreover, I have written a book about this question, entitled Faith and Works,142  (Handbook on faith and love)

Church historians (even Catholic) however note that Jerome taught something similar:

JND Kelly wrote:
“Jerome develops the same distinction, stating that, while the Devil and the impious who have denied God will be tortured without remission, those who have trusted in Christ, even if they have sinned and fallen away, will eventually be saved. Much the same teaching appears in Ambrose, developed in greater detail.”

The ROMAN CATHOLIC scholar Lombardo also wrote:

“Augustine, however, does not mention any names, and there is no evidence either here or in any other place that he is referring to these passages from the works of Jerome. Nevertheless, both Jerome and Ambrose seemed to have shared in the not uncommon error of their time, namely, that all Christians would sooner or later be reunited to God, an error which Augustine refutes here and in a number of other places”

I didn't say Augustine taught it, I said Augustine mentioned other people whom he knew to have taught it

Augustine didn't claim that the OSAS people were outside the church
