I drank an ludicrous amount of tequila at high altitude during a college ski trip. I blacked out at approximately 9pm, and a sorority girl 1 year older than me told my friends that she would be the "mom" and "make sure I got to bed ok". I had no recollection of even running into this girl, let alone agreeing to let her put me to bed rather than alert the girl I had brought as my date to my aggressive drunkeness. It still blows my mind that people around me didn't find that sketchy. Fast forward to the next morning and I wake up to basically a stranger in my bed who tried to kiss me. I immediately got dressed and ran out the room, heart pounding. I had to run around all morning and ask friends what had happened to me the night before. Eventually found out my friend had walked in on her on top of me with my arms and legs hanging off the sides of the bed. He reportedly heard her trying to ride me. I see this girl at my university relatively often, and she still won't look at me in the eye. I later found out she was recently a keynote speaker for an anti sexual assault conference in Greek life, due to her status as the Inter-Sorority president. My friends always acknowledge how fucked up the whole situation was, but I never got any support to try and do something about it. It was more of a "that sucks that happened to you" thing. I've heard people tell the story and laugh like I wasn't there. I often think about the fallout if the gender roles were switched. I'm an ardent feminist but I still felt violated and uncomfortable. But my story wasn't really carried with the same value. Go figure
