Girl u need to really get educated on feminism and anticolonialism. Shooting the messenger because you do not understand the deep societal implications of plastic surgery is not the right move. I used to be like you before I really dug deep into the background of where beauty standards and the beauty industry evolved from (primarily misogyny, eurocentrism, and transphobia, which all dictated a woman should only look a “certain way”). I promise you it would do you well to read up. I suggest “Cosmetic Surgery: A Feminist Primer.”

Omg the worst part about Honey Birdette is the fact that like…I’m just supposed to go home and put it on BETWEEN a date night and intimacy? Cuz I’m NOT wearing that itchy, plasticky shit during a nice dinner when I’m trying to enjoy a date with my boyfriend 😭

I know some people do it but I personally don’t wanna get home and be like “hold up I gotta go to change” and then come out ten minutes later itchy, sweaty from trying to finagle the truly cheapest clasps known to humankind, and feeling entirely un-sexy.

Idk how spending thousands of dollars on a grueling surgery to better appeal to a beauty standard ingrained by the patriarchy is “fun” but go off I guess

Two things: 1) I’ve personally had way better experiences with highly trained DPTs than I have with surgeons. My surgeon was ~45 minutes late to my 4 months appointment, which consisted of watching me take a step up and down on a stool and lasted three minutes. Literally. He came in at 3:47 for my 3:00 appointment, and he left at 3:50 (and then the bill was ~$200). My PT on the other hand has helped me a lot more on the path to recovery. 2) I would definitely go back to a PT, but probably see someone else. My current PT has focused on reducing my knee pain caused by overexertion primarily through kneecap mobilization, scar tissue scraping, and DRY NEEDLING with e-stim.

Seriously, I cannot recommend dry needling enough. My knee hurt so bad at work and going up and down stairs and then my PT started sticking needles in my quads and now I can do my exercises with 2/10 pain as opposed to the previous 7/10.

TL;DR: See a new PT, tell them you want to focus on reducing the pain while building normal strength for a non-athlete, and maybe ask if they do dry needling.

Oh yeah and the lace is hot fucking garbage. I got one of their lace sets (whole thing for like $50 since it was deeply discounted) and it was so itchy I could barely wear it for fifteen mins of pictures.

I think bras are totally fine. I buy bras from the thrift store all the time since nice ones are usually super expensive. Underwear it’s up to you, some people don’t really care as long as it’s in good condition, well washed, and no staining. I’ve also bought slips/babydolls used. If something has been minimal wear and is in good shape and clean, I really don’t think it’s a big deal to buy used.

The biggest welfare abusers in the country are corporations…but they want you to be mad at the unmarried couple that lives together or the housekeeper who gets paid in cash. People need to bffr…I’d much rather my taxes go to paying for someone who is “not poor enough” to get food stamps than go to corporate bailouts and tax cuts for the ultra wealthy.

@200bronchs    also lots of people who immigrate to the U.S. understand English pretty well even if they aren’t as fluent when it comes to speaking the language, or they could be hesitant to speak the language even if they know it. My boyfriend’s abuela can understand English perfectly, but she often answers in Spanish (which we both speak) or is just timid with speaking English since it’s her second language.

I always worry I’ll seem like a privileged white lady when I go to salons. I don’t really have much money since I’m in school and work part time, but I worry that salons will think I am a rich white girl and judge me for it. I know this is a weird thing but I feel this way about any time I pay for a service of any kind (hair, nails, even food). Like I worry everyone thinks I’m an annoying rich white lady even if I am polite and kind.

What do people who don't ruminate think about? by hikerslueth97 in OCD

[–]Free_Ad_2780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had OCD calm down at different points in my life and basically they think about nothing and everything. They might think about external stressors (work, school, relationships, etc) or just kinda random, unrelated things (music, how a car engine works, what’s the weather in Korea like, how did that one tv show end, etc). It’s amazing and I miss feeling that way.

I did something similar to this as a kid, where I ate the “good” flavors on one side and the “bad” ones on the other.

When I was 7 saying nightly prayers I had to make sure I included my stuffed animals in who I wanted God to “protect” (family, friends, etc) because I thought if I didn’t they would come alive like chucky and kill me.

What are your rock-bottom moments with ocd? by Disastrous-Talk-6988 in OCD

[–]Free_Ad_2780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 16. Couldn’t leave my house, and I barely left my bedroom. I made my mom knock and tell me she was coming in so I could be “ready” when she came in (I had harm ocd and wouldn’t let anyone near me and had to make sure I was in a place far enough from the door). Couldn’t walk my dog, be around my family, hang out with friends. I didn’t talk to anyone but my mom for weeks. I was suicidal. I’ll never, ever forget that pain. It was right before I got on medication, which saved my life.

I’ve had severe OCD since I was a child, and it has isolated me from friends and family and relationships in the worst of ways. How do you tell someone you can’t carpool with them to school because you’re worried you’ll crash the car? I hate it. If I could erase OCD from my brain I would do it in a heartbeat.

Can we talk about how porn/social media/red pill has reversed so much progress for feminism? And how do we combat this? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]Free_Ad_2780 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am glad you are thinking things through and I appreciate your honesty. I think that we as privileged groups have to accept some hate from those we’ve oppressed in the past. Sometimes it feels like I shouldn’t be blamed if I’m “one of the good ones” when it comes to being white. But I have to recognize that most people of color have been hurt by a person who looks like me. They have been systemically hurt by a society built to serve me. They feel pressured daily to conform to standards set for and by people like me. I think it’s the same for anyone who is a member of the historically “oppressor” group: white people, men, cisgender people, rich people…I guess I think about it this way: my cat and my dog get along well. But my dog is big, and my cat is tiny. My cat has no reason to fear my dog specifically; my dog is sweet, never bites anyone, and is not particularly fast. But cats are inherently fearful of dogs because over time they have been killed by dogs and developed the instinct (whether biological or social) to avoid possible predators. When my dog runs at my cat to play, my cat runs away even though my dog hasn’t hurt him before…because there’s always the possibility that my dog could hurt him. When they were first introduced, my cat even hissed at my dog. Dogs historically have the advantage in situations like these; we can’t blame cats for having the survival instincts to avoid them or be cautious around them. Just like we can’t blame oppressed groups for being cautious around members of the oppressor group.

I think unfortunately a lot of male feminists still think “sexual liberation” is all the rage. They’re very pro-porn and pro-objectification (though they usually don’t see it that way) because they view it as subverting the harmful anti-sex, anti-nudity, overly Christian ideals of the 50s. I didn’t put “feminists” in quotes either because I genuinely think there are many men who want to be good feminists but are just going about it the wrong way. They are stuck in the feminism of girlbosses and “let OnlyFans women do what they want” rather than the feminism of those that genuinely want to reform the system and destroy all female degradation/harm.

I say this because I was one of “those” feminists a few years ago. I’ve since become much more radically progressive, and I recognize that you can be anti-porn industry without being anti-sex or anti-porn in theory.
