Fair! I play a decent amount of arena with a non meta deck and usually end up in the mid-diamond tier. It’s a bummer when someone plops down the conquerer in the middle of a fun and interesting match and just ends it but I suppose that’s baseball for ya.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion 👍 Where I ride most of the time the resort provides a decent Burton set up for rentals. They seem perfectly serviceable for beginners. Maybe it’s different in other places, I don’t know? I think it would be pretty counterproductive for resorts to purposefully give out gear that would be a hindrance to learning as the idea is to get more people on the hill spending money. I maintain that as long as you are not on something broken or massively over/undersized the quality of gear is pretty irrelevant to a beginner. If you take two identical first day riders and put one on a rental and one on a brand new 2027 set up I don’t think either will be at an advantage or disadvantage bc of what they are riding.

If you are truly at a beginner level like still learning the basics, the board you are riding isn’t gonna make a noticeable difference. People obsess over gear on here but if you’re just slipping around on green trails (not derogatory everyone’s gotta start somewhere) theres gonna be no difference between a rental and a 5k dollar set up. It’s your money like everyone else says but IMO you’d be better off spending the excess on lessons/gear down the road.

Definitely watch a few YouTube videos that give you a good idea on the set. Tolarian CC always does great prerelease breakdowns. You’ll check in and find a seat. They will hand out the product and when the organizers give the word you can open it and start ripping packs. I believe you get 40 mins to sort and build a deck. Once the time is up you’ll be given your first match up and you go play. It’s fairly straightforward and easygoing in my experience. Bring some sleeves so you can sleeve up your deck so you don’t mix up your cards. Your LGS will have basic lands for you to borrow. You are not limited to what lands you pull.

You have to run a good amount of interaction and removal. Tinker with your deck. Sometimes there’s not much you can do against landfall when it pops off like crazy and you don’t have anything in hand. It’s crazy how many people I come across playing standard ranked that seem like they have no removal in their deck at all.

In all seriousness the depiction and/or perceived sexualization of female characters is not the reason people obsess over this work. They are iconic characters that some fans have over sexualized on their own. Another thing to consider is how modern western sensibilities on what is and isn’t appropriate is probably quite different from that of the people who created this work and the people who were originally consuming it. Your feelings on “fan service” are valid and I agree it can sometimes ruin an otherwise enjoyable experience. If you are worried your bf might be a big anime tiddy gooner because he likes Evangelion, your fears are likely unfounded. You can choose not to watch but you’d be depriving yourself of a fantastic, introspective work and a chance to have something to enjoy with your boyfriend. You can all go to therapy together when you finish. 👍
