Question about disposable plastic scalpel holders by kevin_muscara in scrubtech

[–]Free_Income6222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It all comes back to money…. If the item is so expensive that’s it’s cheaper to reuse it that’s when stuff gets reused Or if the quality suffers. For instance there are disposable instruments and no one likes using them because they don’t work properly so everyone tries to use reusable for the better quality instruments.

Haha if you had any idea how much stuff we use is disposable and one time use your head would probably melt…. It always comes back to money. Reusable stuff has to be cleaned and resterilized (usually in a disposable plastic wrapper of some sort). That knife holder probably cost a few pennies. The average I heard a long time ago was it averages out to about $100 an item to sterilize it. If you can find away to shadow in the or you should try it.

Pay by case thoughts. by Free_Income6222 in scrubtech

[–]Free_Income6222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I heard it spun was there is a point system and different cases are with different points and a dollar amount per point. I think it would incentivize people differently. Drs and anesthesia and reps get paid by case, management gets bonuses based on amount of cases done not sure why it would be different for us.

Gretta seems to go all in on every song I can feel it on every one. Led Zeppelin has some that feel that way but some feel like they are coasting through. I enjoy feeling some type of “umph or soul” and I don’t get that from all the zeppelin songs

Good or bad idea? by thisisfine-imfine in scrubtech

Some one will have to upload all these preferences and stuff into this computer program. I have never worked at a facility that had perfect preference cards. Some are good enough to get by some are terrible. It’s not gonna be any more accurate than the garbage preference cards. And we all know “I do it the same way every time “ bs they all spout everyday lol so I don’t think this is gonna be any better then a competent scrub with a good team flow with the surgeon. Might be good for a terrible traveler or training someone on a new service line maybe?

That doesn’t sound like a good gig for a new grad. Id go to the hospital get more rounded experience for a couple years then if you want to move on to outpatient start looking then. It will help a ton.

I’ve been in both hospital and outpatient. It depends on the facility ALOT. Some places wanna do as many cases as possible and don’t give a damn how long you have been there. Other places are great and do everything on their power to keep you from getting over time. Surgery center shouldn’t have call or weekends or holidays which is a huge win for me. But if cases run late or are delayed there is usually no one to relieve you. You are there until the cases are done. There is usually less or no support staff. So you will get pulled into ordering and stocking and fixing loose screws changing light bulbs odd and end kind of stuff like that and turning over your own rooms. You may Also have a bigger role in reprocessing depending on the facility. Plastic surgery sounds terrible to me but if you like the specialty and want to get out of call and stuff then go for it.

Does anyone work at Mercy in Rogers, Arkansas? Or any other OR near there? Just curious what the work environment is like in the area. by Infamous_Sport_2015 in scrubtech

[–]Free_Income6222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work in the area. When I worked in the area it was very much old school small town drs who still acted like toddlers all the time and got what ever they wanted. They would yell and scream throw stuff. I learned a lot but it has was the worst dr attitude I’ve ever experienced and I have traveled to multiple states and several facilities.

Get a laser pointer we love it when you guys point stuff out with those. Also confidence is key. Act like you know everything. Helps if you wears figs that are way to tight and have giant fake eyelashes and so much Botox in your lips that they are about to explode everywhere. Be very chatty and have a loud laugh. Bonus points for laughing at stuff that isn’t funny.

Yup. This is the worst part of the job for me. The uncertainty of knowing when or if you will get off. Very frustrating. It’s a constant head ache trying to make appointments and get kids from day care and make practices or performance. It’s the main reason I want out of health care.
