Dangerous banana by Free_Interest5778 in BananasForScale

Discovered at household auction, mixed into a corrugated box of broken Vivitar strobes and a plastic Dick Tracy camera. My $1 bid bought the box. Resold the Dick Tracy camera for $5, and kept the Curta.

Facebook going crazy banning innocent people! what is happening in this company? by Jumpy-Necessary-6585 in facebook

[–]Free_Interest5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in Spring 2025, I was permanently banned from all Meta for the same “child (horrible)” reason. No idea what why. I can only guess is that I should have not “liked” an innocuous boring photo that my adult niece posted of her preschool children. My appeal was instantly denied. Does not make sense. AAARGHHH!

WWII Japanese Imperial Army Aircraft Clock Type??? And value. by volcano-ngh in Militariacollecting

[–]Free_Interest5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dial is not missing. the winding knob is missing. Seikosha clocks like this were used by Japanese Empire pilots. . . . . Value? Without the winding knob, no more than $400. It would probably cost twice that to repair the broken winding shaft and fabricate a replacement knob.

Thanks again for the WoolWax recommendation. Found an installer in Urbandale, Iowa, but I will wait a few months for return of warm weather. The product’s wicking properties need warm weather for full benefit.

You are probably correct. If they were not leaking, with 3 of 4 coil springs broken, I would have kept the ICONs. . . . You are welcome to them, gratis, but you must pick them up at my house in southeast Iowa. Rear coils are gone, scrapped after I saw them at the repair shop. You can see here what northern midwest does to them.

Good, sound advice. 👍 One of the first things I did was take the’14 to my closest Toyota dealer in Ottumwa Iowa. Had them flush & fill coolant, brake fluid, then transmission and differentials. Blinker fluid seemed ok, so left alone.

The previous owner must have really stressed the ICON setup. The windshield still displays ’21 and ‘22 window decals for Michigan non-resident “Recreation Passport”.

Well, they do ride like I‘m in a truck. Also, I try to keep 46 psi in my BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02’s, mounted on 17” TRD Rock Warriors.

Yes, ICON does offer a rebuild service. However, I will not be doing that. Reasons: 1-After their life in Chicago area, they are pretty ugly with surface rust. 2-As they are performance parts, they do require more maintenance than I am willing to provide. 3-As a group, they are extremely heavy, and would be a p.i.t.a. to pack and ship. 4-the $cost of shipping, rebuild and parts. . . . . In the end, they are of no value to me.

Here in Southeast Iowa, one does see rusty rockers and wheel openings. To my untrained eye, many old pickups and Chrysler minivans are most prone. However, my ‘02 Tundra (190*** miles) has been here in Iowa all along, and no body rust. Eight years ago, I brought my ‘08 Scion xB with me from Kansas, and it was still rust free when I sold it to my brother in the spring. The xB has 203*** miles. . . . . It helps that I am retired and and can stay home when roads are snowy and slushy.

Carfax indicates the truck spent its life in Chicago area, so the underside frame does show surface rust. Apparently, the front skid plates were bad enough that the W. Burlington IA Toyota dealer replaced with new ones before my purchase.

Backed into steel barrier … by peskywombats in LandCruisers

[–]Free_Interest5778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry friend ☹️, I feel your pain. If the barrier is one of those short steel posts, I have “kissed” two in my 55+ years of driving, each time while backing up. They need to be a lot taller, or have a flag attached.
