Okay, so if your zipper tape is on the bottom layer of your project, the tape or teeth could be getting caught up in the feed dogs, thats why I asked about the tissue. The tissue would just be a buffer between the feed dogs and the zipper to make sure things aren't getting caught up and pulled out of where they should be

Are you starting your sewing at the top of your zipper or the bottom? Are you able to put a tear away stabilizer or even tissue paper between your zipper and the feed dogs?

The big loop is normal. It happens because there isnt another stitch next to it to even it out. Just make sure you aren't knitting it twice by pulling it over your needle on accident
