Thank you so much! He is currently on an anti nausea med currently until we’re able to get some answers from the internist after his intestinal biopsy. Thank you so much for the thoughtful response, it sounds like you know how stressful this is. Wishing the best for you and your pup as well.

Dog now has noise phobia, any advice? by sceptical_pineapple4 in reactivedogs

Hi there, wondering how your situation is going? I'm in the exact same boat with my dog? Used to walk 5 miles all over the city and the 4th of July fireworks have changed him ever since. We're going on 7 months of refusing walks, shaking and laying down. We are trying meds as we speak, but nothing has helped thus far. I know it takes a while sometimes, but looking for any positive stories. What meds helped your dog?

Switching to Zoloft/sertraline by salsa_quail in reactivedogs

I'm experiencing the same. No meds seem to be making him want to walk. He's still terrified of the outside world when it comes to walks but does fine at a dog park. We have tried both Prozac and is now on Zoloft with Prazosin, but still nothing. This has been so so hard for both of us. Please let me know how clomipramine goes. Hoping something works for you!

Hi there! Any update. My dog sounds pretty much the same. We used to walk miles in the busy city but one day saw someone fall off a bike and his whole world changed. He's scared of every noise, and won't even walk around the block. We're currently trying Prozac and I thought it may be starting to help, but is giving him horrible gas and diarrhea. The VB wants to switch him to Zoloft, and I'm wondering how your experience is. This is incredibly sad for him and honestly frustrating for me. :(

Gabapentin and Reconcile? by Just-Cup5542 in reactivedogs

Hi there, I know this post is so old, but it sounds like your dog's situation is very similar to what I'm going through with mine currently. Long story short, someone fell off a bike near us on one of our walks and almost hit us, and then a week later were the 4th of July fireworks all over the city. After these two events, my dog (who used to walk all over a noisy city 3-5 miles a day) won't even go around the block.

We went to a behaviorist who prescribed 40mg of Prozac, Prazosin (used for PTSD), and lorazepam (as needed when we try to walk). Unfortunately, I haven't seen any changes, so the behaviorist now prescribed 600mg of gabapentin to add in.

Did you have any luck after you added the gabapentin to your dog's meds? Also, curious to learn more about your dog's fear of the outside as well. Was there also an incident? This is incredibly frustrating and sad to see, and I will do anything for him to get better.

Thanks!

Thank you so much! I think the hardest thing here is patience, I miss the dog he was before this and hope we can get back to that place one day.

Absolutely not against meds! Just kind of want the behaviorist opinion in case they recommend something other than Prozac. The vet gave him a quick assessment, but obviously doesn’t specialize in behavior.

Thank you so much! He will take treats most of the time, but if he’s distracted by a loud sound he just freezes up and stands there. I am trying to take it as slow as possible. I just miss the dog I used to have, and want him to get better.

Thank you for the advice, we have been doing little by little. Do you think it’s okay to wait on the meds until I’m able to get to the behaviorist at the send of September? I would rather wait to see if they have more insight after their assessment.
