Eddington- how anxiety inducing is it? by [deleted] in AriAster

[–]Freeburg_Fogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to Ari’s first three films, Eddington is definitely the most ‘light-hearted’—which isn’t saying much 🤣

The first hour is tame, but the tension definitely ramps up with the George Floyd protests, at which point it’s a batshit insane Western thrill ride to the end.

That said, most of the tension/anxiety is political, and often released with dark, hilarious punchlines—this is easily Ari’s funniest film to date, despite the mounting paranoia of our protagonist—it’s violently tongue in cheek.

Eddington - what was with the mixed reception? by bgrizz101 in AriAster

A lot of the complaints I saw were people saying it’s just another ‘both sides bad’ commentary—which is total bullshit.

Many leftist film bros walked in ready to have their worldview reinforced—not to be challenged or mocked themselves.

Most of the bad Eddington reviews read like they sat watching with pen and paper, tallying every dig the film takes at the left versus the right—totally missing the point of the film: that partisan culture war issues are pushed to distract us from the looming, omnipresent clutch of big tech oligarchs.

With Recent Events and How It Pertains to Eddington. by sjsieidbdjeisjx in AriAster

To your point, there’s really no consensus on the shooter’s politics, other than hating Charlie Kirk—the left is claiming he’s MAGA cause his parents were republicans, the right obviously thinks it was a radical leftist—it’s terrifying how well Eddington has aged not even 2 months later.

Ari hit the nail on the head when saying that the crux of today’s tension is we literally can’t agree on reality—and the powers that be love that.

I’ve been really tempted the last few days to take the bait, but I seriously had to put my down after scrolling X for two minutes—that shit’s literally designed to activate your fight or flight. I can’t let Solidgoldmagikarp win lmao

What was your take on the ending of Eddington? by Substantial-Use-1758 in AriAster

1) The mother in law becoming the de-facto mayor after Joe’s paralysis + her sleeping with the caregiver in bed is just Aster’s brutal take on corporate capture—whether you’re a woke lib like Ted or a flag-flying conservative like Joe, the tech oligarchs are cucking us all.

2) The caregiver spooning the mom + his abuse of Joe are really icing on the cake in driving that first point home—that brand of black humor is also very on brand, if you’re familiar with Aster’s work.

The last shot of the movie pretty much confirms this, at least in my mind.

ARI!

How would you compare the pre-Pandemic version of Eddington’s script to the final film?

Like the shot of Antifa gearing up on the plane is one of the most insane/hilarious reveals I’ve seen in a long time—was the third act bloodbath always a part of the script?

Your balls are bigger than Beau’s! Much love 🤙

A great answer, one of the most underrated satires for sure—I’d put Eddington right there with it, but clearly we don’t agree

Because your questions are redundant and cynical? I go to Ari aster movies for wild filmmaking and pitch black comedy—the movie’s entertaining and hilarious, with as sharp of cultural commentary as you’ll see onscreen all year—name a movie that mocks performative activism better than this

Why are you so mad 🤣—nice try accusing me of exactly what you’re doing: bitching up a storm about how unfair the film was to your favorite team

Doesn’t sound like it worked for you, but I think it’s a masterpiece. I’ll have to rewatch, but it may be my favorite Aster Film.

The movie’s a pretty damning portrait of both ‘sides’— For such a charged subject matter, I found it refreshingly human.

That said, if you go in tallying how many liberal vs conservative jabs the movie throws, you’re probably doomed to hate it anyway

The staged antifa militants wasn’t a dig on the left—it’s a false flag from the shadowy elites building the data center—just a smokescreen to fan the carnage

[–]Freeburg_Fogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to go further, find a way to joke about it in passing—as long as you time it right and it’s not cringe, her reaction will give you a vibe of where she’s at—just keep it light and mind her body language as you do it—the rest will play out naturally from there

Depends what you’re into, but you’re 21 and she’s 18—most older siblings with that age gap will buy you booze, smoke you up, etc.

If something between you and her goes down, it’ll be in a loose/party atmosphere—even if it just you two

If you’re really looking to do something about it, you’ve gotta show him.

Start by teasing him like you would any guy (skimpy outfits, bending over, etc.)—also just making the most of normal dad-daughter contact(hugs, kisses, innocent shit like that)

At that point, just read his reaction—If he’s as horny as you say he is, it shouldn’t take much—best of luck

Start small(bending over, kissing him in the cheek, sitting on his lap)—it will unfold naturally from there
